OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha softball team continues its road stretch this weekend with a trip to the Highlander Classic in Riverside, Calif.
The Mavericks start tournament play against San Diego on Friday, March 3 at 11 a.m. (CT) before squaring off against the host school UC Riverside at 1:30 p.m. Day two of the Highlander Classis consists of a second game against San Diego at 11 a.m. The Mavericks wrap up the tournament on Sunday against Houston at 11 a.m. and wrap up tournament action against UC Riverside at 1:30 p.m.
Leading Off
• Omaha is 2-13 on the season, heading into the Highlander Classic in Riverside, Calif this weekend.
• The Mavericks will be meeting Houston and San Diego for the first time in program history, and are 0-2 all-time against UC Riverside.
• UNO went 1-4 at the Wooo Pig Classic in Fayetteville, Ark. last weekend.
• The Mavericks defeated Northwestern State 4-1 while falling to Boston University (6-1), Nevada (8-0) and twice to No. 14 Arkansas (2-0, 6-0).

Emily Klosterman led Omaha at the plate, each hitting .333 for the tournament. White went 5-for-15 with a home run and two RBI. Klosterman finished the weekend 3-for-9 with a double and an RBI.

• Omaha finished the 2018 season 21-30 overall and 5-9 in the Summit League.

Sydney Hampton were recognized as players to watch in the Summit League.
• This season's roster is comprised of 12 returning letterwinners, including seven upperclassmen, and 10 newcomers.
Scouting the San Diego Toreros
San Diego is 7-11 on the season after finishing 2-2 at the San Diego Classic. The Toreros topped Weber State (4-1) and FGCU (5-1) and lost to FGCU (6-5) and UC Davis (2-1).
Sara Silveyra leads San Diego with a .413 average, 1.029 on-base percentage and 10 RBI. Lindsay Clare and Madison Casiano each have nine RBI.
Scouting the UC Riverside
UC Riverside is 5-12 overall after going 1-2 at the UCR Classic last weekend. The Highlanders topped UTEP 4-0 and dropped two games to UTEP (8-7) and Sacramento State (5-0).
Melanie Olmos and Danielle Ortega each are hitting over .380 on the season. Olmos is hitting .385 with 10 RBI, while Ortega is hitting .380 with three stolen bases. Emma Ramelot has two homers this season with six RBI.
Scouting the Houston Cougars
Houston is 16-6 on the season, including a 15-6 mark at home. The Cougars went 4-1 at the Red & White Showcase last weekend. Houston took two from Texas State (10-0 (5 inn.) and 8-3), beat Texas Southern 9-0 (5 inn) and split with DePaul (W 8-0, L 2-0).
Lindsey Stewart leads the team with a .435 average with two homers, three triples and 21 RBI. Abby Odneal is hitting .386 with two homers and 12 RBI.

Omaha plays a midweek game in Lawrence, Kan. against Kansas on Tuesday, March 12 at 4 p.m. The Mavericks then head to the Billiken Spring Tournament in St. Louis March 15-17.
