ELK GROVE, Calif. – The Omaha men's golf team got below-par scores from two players in the final round to finish 13th at the Sacramento State Invitational on Tuesday.
The Mavericks shot back-to-back team rounds of 293 in rounds two and three to finish at 882 for the 54-hole event at the Valley Hi Country Club. Those two rounds tied for the sixth-lowest shot by the Mavericks this season.
Darkness postponed the completion of the second round on Monday, forcing the 15 teams to finish in the morning before playing the third round.
Cal State Fullerton won the event with a score of 847. Long Beach was second at 854, and Grand Canyon took third, one stroke back.
Witchayapat Sinsrang led the Mavericks in scoring and tied for 14th overall with a two-under score of 214. He shot 71 in the second round and finished with a card of 70. The final score was his third-lowest 54-hole score of the season.
Nick Kagy was second on the team with a score of 217, a career best, and tied for 21st overall. He was at even par 72 in round two and closed with a round of 71.
Thirawat Chantrakantanond shot matching scores of 74 in rounds two and three to finish at 221, good for a tie for 46th.
Cole Christain was fourth on the team and tied for 75th overall at 230. He shot 76 in round two and 78 in round three.
Jonah Wright finished the scoring for the Mavericks with a total of 242. He finished round two with a score of 80 and closed with an 81 in round three to tie for 84th overall.
The Mavericks have a week off before taking part in the Grand Canyon Invitational on Friday and Saturday, March 15-16 in Phoenix, Ariz.
