Omaha Pivots Focus On Mid-Week Matchup at Wichita State

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha baseball aims to preserve its 10-game winning streak with a mid-week showdown against Wichita State Tuesday, March 26, at 6 p.m.
 
LEADING OFF
• The Mavericks have won 10 games in a row, which is the longest active streak in Division I ahead of Indiana (8), Stony Brook (8) and Winthrop (8), who have the second-longest.
• This marks the first mid-week contest for the Mavericks this season.
• Omaha currently sits first in The Summit League with a 6-0 conference record.
• Pitching has been key for the Mavericks this year, as Payton Kinney leads the conference and ranks ninth in the nation with a 0.69 ERA.
• Starting mid-week pitcher Andrew Brighton sits at 1-0 this season with a 6.23 ERA.
• With five mound appearances and one start, the senior southpaw has six strikeouts with five walks allowed. He picked up his first and only victory on the season in the 4-2 win over Santa Clara March 10, where he pitched 6.0 innings.
Tyler Daugherty leads The Summit League and ranks tied for eighth all-time in program history with five saves this season.
Keil Krumwiede paces the Mavericks with a .333 batting average and 13 RBI through all 20 games this season.
• Omaha is coming off a Division I era program record 26 runs scored in the series finale against Purdue Fort Wayne March 24.
• Omaha and Wichita State last squared up in a two-game series Feb. 24- 25 last season, where the Shockers won both matchups by scores of 4-3 and 3-0.

SCOUTING THE SHOCKERS
Wichita State sits at 11-12 overall with a 2-1 record in conference play. The Shockers are coming off a 2-1 series win over Memphis this past weekend. Wichita State has played two ranked opponents this season, as the team fell 4-5 to then-No. 5 Stanford, and was swept by then-No. 10 Texas Tech.
 
The Shockers have played Summit League competition this season with an 8-2 win over Oral Roberts. This season, Wichita State returns three positions starters from the previous year and eight pitchers with 21 newcomers.

Jordan Boyer leads the team with a .400 batting average through 20 games. Luke Ritter has a team-high 20 RBI and five home runs this season. Starting pitcher Miller Pleimann posts a 5.68 ERA through five mound appearances this season. He has a 0-0 record with 6.1 innings pitched, 16 strikeouts with eight hits, six walks and five runs allowed. The team is led by head coach Todd Butler who is 152-161-1 at Wichita State. He is in his sixth season with the program and posts a career record of 242-244-1 in over eight years as a head coach.

The Mavericks are in action this weekend for its third-straight home series of the season against Summit League foe Western Illinois. The games are set for March 29-31.
