Omaha Opens Summit League Play Against South Dakota State

OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha softball plays its first home series of the season this weekend, hosting its Summit League opener against South Dakota State.  The Mavericks and Jackrabbits play a doubleheader on Friday, March 22, starting at 1 p.m., followed by a single game on Saturday, March 23, at 11 a.m.  The series will be played at Claussen-Westgate Field.  Links to live stats are available on OMavs.com.

Leading Off
•    Omaha is 2-24 on the season after falling 8-0 to Kansas earlier in the week.
•    Junior Emma Dargy leads the Mavericks with a slash line of .266/.420/.453 to go along with two homers, six doubles and eight RBI.
•    Freshman Jamie White is the team-leader with three homers and nine RBI.
•    Sophomore Alexa Sedlak owns a .246 average with two homers and seven RBI.
•    Sophomore Sydney Hampton and freshman Ryanne Millington have made 19 appearances each.
•    Hampton has a team-low .546 ERA with 35 strikeouts.  Millington owns a 7.47 ERA with 17 RBI.
•    Omaha finished the 2018 season 21-30 overall and 5-9 in the Summit League.
•    Amanda Eberhart enters her first season at the helm of the Omaha softball program.
•    The Mavericks were picked fifth in the Preseason Summit League Coaches Poll.
•    Senior Natalie Mostek and sophomore Sydney Hampton were recognized as Players to Watch in the Summit League.
•    This season's roster is comprised of 12 returning letterwinners, including seven upperclassmen, and 10 newcomers.

Scouting the South Dakota State Jackrabbits
South Dakota State leads the Summit League with a 21-7 overall record and opens its league schedule as well.  The Jackrabbits went 2-2 last weekend in Kansas City, Mo.

Ali Herdliska is in the Summit League's top three in average (.392), home runs (six) and RBI (27).  Julia Andersen is hitting .318 with four home runs and 23 RBI.  Kendra Conard is 7-0 with a league-low 1.60 ERA.  Taylor Compton is 5-3 with a league-high four saves and a team-best 32 strikeouts.
