NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The Omaha women's tennis program dropped a 6-1 result on the road at CSUN.
The Mavericks were blanked in the doubles action as
Janelle Wilson and
Savanna Crowell dropped a 6-1 decision at No. 1. At No. 2, the duo of
Marie Kapelevich and
Natalie Lorentz fought hard, but were edged 7-5. At No. 3,
Emily Behling and
Clare Crockett fell 6-1.
In singles action, freshman
Justine Linscott picked up the lone win for the Mavericks, as she defeated her opponent 7-6 (5), 7-5 at No. 6. At No. 2 singles, Lorentz took her opponent to three sets, but eventually fell 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (10-4).
"We went into this match with the obvious intent to win, but I also wanted them to play with a purpose," said head coach
Adam Summitt. "The last few matches we have not played with the intensity that is needed to compete at this level. Even though we lost, we played with a purpose and passion that I had not seen since our Missouri State match. I hope to see more of that the rest of the year. If we do that, we can be a dangerous team."
The Mavericks now look ahead to six straight home matches that close out the season. The team has a pair of Summit League matches March 29 and March 30 against Oral Roberts and Western Illinois. The times are set for 2 p.m. and noon, respectively.
