Softball Heads to Billiken Classic, Kansas

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha softball team heads to the Billiken Spring Tournament in St. Louis, Mo. this weekend, March 15-17, before playing at Kansas on Monday, March 18.  Links to live stats for all game will be made available on OMavs.com.

Leading Off
•    Omaha is 2-18 on the season, after dropping five games at the Highlander Classic in Riverside, Calif.
•    The Mavericks dropped two games to San Diego (10-0, 2-1) and UC Riverside (8-0, 9-6) and lost a 6-0 decision to Houston.
•    Emma Dargy hit .400 with two doubles and two walks to lead the Mavericks at the plate.
•    Lexi Burkhardt and Hailey Bartz each hit .375 for the weekend. Burkhardt went 3-for-8 with a double and two stolen bases, while Bartz went 3-for-8 with a double and an RBI.
•    Savannah Fisher and Alexa Sedlak each have two game hitting streaks to lead the Mavericks.
•    Dargy has reached base in three-straight games, while Fisher and Sedlak have reached in two-straight.
•    Omaha finished the 2018 season 21-30 overall and 5-9 in the Summit League.
•    Amanda Eberhart enters her first season at the helm of the Omaha softball program.
•    The Mavericks were picked fifth in the Preseason Summit League Coaches Poll.
•    Senior Natalie Mostek and sophomore Sydney Hampton were recognized as players to watch in the Summit League.
•    This season's roster is comprised of 12 returning letterwinners, including seven upperclassmen, and 10 newcomers.

Scouting the Northern Illinois Huskies
Northern Illinois is 9-13 on the season after dropping a pair of games to Seattle on Tuesday.  NIU is currently on a six-game losing streak.

Kat Lane leads Saint Louis at the plate with a .357 average with a triple and two RBI.  Kristi Stevenson has a team-best two home runs, while Sadie Wise leads the squad with seven RBI.

Scouting the Saint Louis Billikens
Saint Louis is 2-15 overall this season and have lost eight straight.

Katie Keller leads the Huskies at the plate with a .356 average (16-for-45) and five doubles with four RBI and six stolen bases.  Jenny Van Geertry is the team leader with six homers, while Dominique Greeno has amassed 12 RBI.

Scouting the Northern Colorado Bears
The Bears are 4-20 on the season after dropping five games at the Jeannine McHaney Classic in Lubbock, Texas last weekend.  UNC has lost nine-straight games coming into the weekend.

Kenzie Kudma leads the team with a .318 average, while Mady Young has a team-best 10 RBI.

Scouting the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks
SEMO is 17-7 this season and on a five-game winning streak after going undefeated at the Jayhawk Classic.  The Redhawks play Missouri State on Thursday, March 14 before starting tournament play.

Rachel Anderson and Ashley Ellis lead SEMO at the plate, hitting .453 and .435 respectively.  Anderson is the team-leader with 10 stolen bases, while Ellis leads the clubhouse with eight homers and 27 RBI.

Scouting the Kansas Jayhawks
Kansas is 5-17 on the season after finishing 1-3 at the Jayhawk Invitational.  The Jayhawks defeated Main 6-4 while dropping two games to SEMO (2-0, 2-1) before falling 5-4 to UMKC in eight innings.

Shelby Gayre leads the Jayhawks with a .383 average (18-for-47).  Gayre also has two home runs, three doubles and 11 RBI.  Madison Skyes is hitting .368 average with a team-best 12 RBI.  Brynn Minor and Lexy Mills each have two wins.  Minor has a team-low 3.85 ERA, while Mills is the clubhouse-leader with 31 strikeouts.
