Mavericks Drop Pair on Day Two at Wooo Pig Classic


FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Omaha softball team fell to Boston 6-1 and lost 9-0 in five innings against the host Arkansas Razorbacks at Bogle Park on Friday.

The Mavericks play a pair of games on Saturday to conclude the Wooo Pig Classic.  Omaha takes on Northwestern State at 10 a.m. and Nevada at Noon.

Emily Klosterman went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI, while Susan Rice and Sydney Schelkopf each recorded a hit.

Boston took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on an error and a pair of hits.  

Alex Heinen increased the Terriers' lead to 4-0 with a three-run homer in the top of the third. Heinen drove in her fourth run of the game with a ground out in the top of the fifth.

In the bottom of the fifth, Schelkopf reached on a throwing error.  Klosterman then doubled to left center to bring home Schelkopf and cut the lead to 5-1.

BU added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to make the final 6-1.

Razorback pitcher Mary Haff struck out four batters and held the Mavericks to one hit as No. 14 Arkansas defeated Omaha 9-0 in five innings.

Emma Dargy doubled for Omaha's only hit of the afternoon.

Arkansas put a pair of runs on the board in the bottom of the first thanks to a two-run homer by Katie Warrick.  The Razorbacks used solo home runs by Danielle Gibson and Ashley Diaz to go up 4-0 in the bottom of the third.  Arkansas put five runs on the board in the fourth to end the game via the run rule after the fifth inning.

The Mavericks are now 1-12 on the season.
