OXFORD, Ohio – The Omaha hockey team dropped a 4-2 decision to Miami in the final game of their season series on Saturday at Steve Cady Arena.
The Mavericks fell to 9-17-2 overall and 5-12-1-0/1 in the NCHC, good for seventh. Miami snapped a nine-game losing streak with the win, improving to 10-16-4 overall and 4-12-2-1/0 in the conference, putting it in eighth.
The RedHawks opened the scoring for the first time in 14 games when Derek Daschke fired home a pass from Josh Melnick at 7:50.
MU's Phil Knies made it 2-0 when he banged home the rebound of a shot by Casey Gilling at 11:06.
Miami stretched its lead to 3-0 when Scott Corbett scored at 9:35 of the second, but the Mavericks came right back.
Chayse Primeau knocked in the rebound of a shot by
Tristan Keck at 10:42 for his third goal of the year.
Omaha narrowed the gap even further later in the period.
Kevin Conley fed
Jalen Schulz at the right point. Schulz wasted no time taking a slap shot that eluded goalie Ryan Larkin who was screened on the play. It was Schulz first goal of the season.
The Mavericks had their best chance to tie the game midway through the third off an odd-man rush into the Miami zone, but Schulz was denied by Larkin on a rebound chance to preserve the lead.
Melnick iced the game with a goal with 3:44 remaining in the game.
Evan Weninger made 22 saves while Larkin made 33 stops as the Mavericks outshot the RedHawks, 35-26.
