OMAHA, Neb. -- The Omaha men's basketball team got back to its winning ways Sunday afternoon, picking up a 90-72 win over North Dakota at Baxter Arena. The Mavericks are now 13-9 (7-2 Summit League) on the season, while the Fighting Hawks drop to 9-14 (3-7).
Leaders for Omaha
All five starters scored in double figures for the third time this year, led by a game-high 22 points from
Zach Jackson. The senior hit 9-of-12 from the field and 4-of-5 from the line, adding a team-high five rebounds, two assists and two steals.
JT Gibson joined him with 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting and a pair of threes alongside five boards and a game-high four steals.
Mitch Hahn and
KJ Robinson followed with 16 points apiece. Robinson shot 6-of-9 with two 3-pointers and collected three rebounds, a team-best four assists and three steals. Hahn finished 7-of-11 from the floor and grabbed four boards with a steal.
Matt Pile rounded it out with 12 points, five rebounds, a steal and two blocks.
Leaders for North Dakota
Cortez Seales led the Fighting Hawks with 17 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Billy Brown also had 16 points with four triples, three rebounds, two assists and two steals, and Aanen Moody hit five threes en route to 15 points and five caroms.
Team Stats
Omaha shot .565 (39-of-69) to North Dakota's .456 (26-of-57), despite hitting just four 3-pointers for the day. The Mavericks won the rebounding battle 31-29 and had a 52-26 advantage in the paint. They also committed a season-low six turnovers while forcing 16, collecting 28 points off miscues.
Inside the First Half
A 21-3 run, including a 15-0 stretch from 9:40 to 6:24, put Omaha in control in the first half. The Mavericks shot .550 (22-of-40) in the opening 20 minutes, powered by 13 points from Jackson, 12 from Gibson and 11 from Hahn. After a layup at the buzzer from Jackson, Omaha held a 49-33 edge at the break.
Inside the Second Half
The Maverick lead stretched to 20 with just under 15 minutes to play on a bucket from Gibson. UND responded immediately with a 16-0 run over the next four minutes to cut it to 64-60, and it was finally stanched with a three from Robinson with just over 10 minutes to play. Omaha withstood the rally and regained its double-digit lead, which it held the rest of the way. The Mavericks went up by as many as 20 -- matching their largest lead -- when a late three from Gibson made it 90-70.
