OMAHA, Neb. -- The Omaha baseball program continues the road series with a three-game slate at Savannah State in Savannah, Ga. The games are scheduled Friday-Sunday, March 1-3.
LEADING OFF
• Omaha is coming off a 2-2 series split at Seattle U and sits at 3-4 overall.
• Recently,
Payton Kinney is the current Summit League Pitcher of the Week after he improved to 2-0 on the season. • His two wins are also tied for the most in The Summit League.
• The Mavericks were scheduled to play a mid-week game at Nebraska next week (March 5), but the contest was postponed due to upcoming weather conditions. The game is also the second straight mid-week contest that has been postponed or cancelled due to weather, as the team was slated to play Kansas back on Feb. 20.
• The Mavericks will start a pair of right-handers in
Joey Machado and Kinney for Friday and Saturday. They will follow up with southpaw
Spencer Koelewyn for the Sunday game on March 3.
• So far, Krumwiede (.478) and second baseman
Max Gamm (.304) are the two players batting over .300 through seven games.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Savannah State is currently 1-3 overall this season after taking one game in a three-part series against Coppin State. The Tigers' matchup with Omaha will be the second-straight home series before they head to Norfolk State for a five-game series. Savannah State has three players in Aaron Straker (.444), Jalen Atterbury (.412) and Justin Washington (.333) that bat over .300.
They are coached by Carlton Hardy, who is 279-345 in his 13th year at Savannah State and 432-511 in his 21-year baseball career. The Tigers' pitching rotation for the weekend consists of right-handers Luis Torres-Lopez (8.44 ERA), Caleb Hill (12.46 ERA) and Ian Concevitch (1.50 ERA).

KEIL GETS ON BASE
Senior shortstop
Keil Krumwiede has been on a tear through the first seven games of the season. His .458 batting average leads the team and sits atop The Summit League. He also has a league-best 11 hits and a .552 on-base percentage. His six runs in seven games rank third in the league and he's also on a seven-game hitting and reached-base streak. So far, he's started every game at shortstop for the Mavericks.
DAUGHERTY IN THE CLUTCH
After only pitching 0.1 innings last season, senior
Tyler Daugherty earned his first-career save in the series finale win over Southern California on Feb. 17.
The Mavericks led 12-1, but surrendered eight unanswered runs to the Trojans and led by only three in the bottom of the eighth. Daugherty entered the game and recorded 17 strikes on 25 total pitches, two strikeouts and allowed zero runs. The senior earned his second save in as many appearances this season in the 10-8 win over Seattle, entering in the top of the seventh for 3.0 innings pitched.
