BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Omaha track and field team concluded the first day of The Summit League Championships in sixth overall.
Anna Edet highlighted the day with a new indoor school record in the weight throw of 59'7.25" (18.71m). Her eighth-place finish in the event bests her previous school record of 58'6.50" set last season.
"We had some good things happen today," said head coach
Chris Richardson. "I was so happy for Anna to end her indoor career on a high note with her record. With The Summit League being one of the deepest conferences for throws, it's quite an accomplishment for her. Tomorrow is a new day to do great things."
In the running events, the Mavericks saw a multitude of athletes achieve personal bests.
For the 60-meter dash,
Brekk Flax narrowly missed the finals with a 10th place finish on a new personal best of 7.90 seconds.
Sophia Kirwan also posted a personal best of 7.99 seconds in the event for 13th.
Erinoelle Clifton also notched a pair of personal bests as she ran 8.00 seconds in the 60-meter for 15th, and followed up with a time of 26.00 seconds in the 200-meter dash for 14th.
Later that day in the 800-meter run,
Lauren Houston qualified for the finals with a seventh-place result at 2:14.52.
The distance medley relay team of
Anita Jenkins,
Daylee Olson,
Annie Catania and Heidi hall notched fifth with a time of 12:44.39. Lastly,
Heidi Hall ran a new lifetime best in the 3000-meter run (10:33.64) for 13th.
The second day of The Summit League Championships begins at 9:30 a.m. Senior
