Matt Pile was named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District 7 Men's Basketball First Team on Thursday, it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The team was selected by a vote of sports information directors whose institutions are located within CoSIDA District 7, which includes the states of Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming.
It marks the first career inclusion on an Academic All-District team for Pile, who now advances to the Academic All-America ballot and will be considered for national accolades next month.
Pile is Omaha's sixth Academic All-District selection in men's basketball program history. The Mavericks have had two all-district picks in the Division I era.
Pile carries a 3.90 grade-point average with a major in medicinal chemistry. He is a member of the UNO Dean's List and the Summit League Academic Honor Roll.
The Goddard, Kan., native's sophomore campaign has seen him average 10.9 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game with 17 double-figure scoring performances and a team-best seven double-doubles. Pile leads the Summit League in offensive rebounds (76) and ranks in the top five for field goal percentage (second at .605), total rebounds (fourth at 193) and rebounds per game (fifth at 7.4).
