COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Omaha hockey team had a conference-leading 19 players named NCHC Academic All-Conference, it was announced on Tuesday.
To earn the honor, student-athletes must have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and have completed at least one academic year to be named academic all-conference. Freshmen and transfers who achieve the same standard following the completion of the 2018-19 academic year will be added to the list.
In addition, the Mavericks also had an NCHC-leading 11 players named Distinguished Scholar-Athletes for achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better. In fact, eight of those players had a GPA north of 3.7 led by senior
Lukas Buchta who posted a 3.95.
This is the third year in a row the Mavericks have led the NCHC in student-athletes named Distinguished Scholar-Athletes and to the academic all-conference team and the fourth year overall leading the NCHC for academic all-conference. That ranking does not include the year-end freshmen and transfer additions.
It has been a banner year for the NCHC academically. A conference-best 52 student-athletes were named Distinguished Scholar-Athletes while the 113 members of the academic all-conference team ranked third best in the six-year history of the NCHC.
