IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Omaha men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Iowa on Friday at the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Complex.

The Hawkeyes swept all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point.  The pairing of Ethan Henry and Alex Woodward dropped a 6-3 decision at No. 3, while Matt Dunn and Nathan Reekie fell 6-3 at No. 2.

Iowa continued its strong play by winning four singles matches to clinch the match.  Reekie fell 6-3, 6-1 to No. 89 Kareem Allaf at No. 2.  Dunn dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision at No. 5 to Will Davies.

The Mavericks wrapped up the match with a pair of split set wins.  Freshman Davis Lawley picked up his first collegiate win with a 7-5, 3-6, 10-8 victory over Joe Tyler at No. 3.  Hugo Piles Ballester came from a set down to defeat Oliver Okonkwo at No. 4 3-6, 7-6 (7), 12-10.

"The guys have battled through the tough part of our schedule," said head coach Tyson Thomas.  "I am proud of Davis Lawley and Hugo Piles Ballester for gutting out singles victories tonight.  We have improved a lot and we're excited about the weeks to come."

Omaha opens the conference portion of its schedule on Friday, Feb. 22 against Drake.  First serve is set for 5 p.m. in Des Moines, Iowa.
