Omaha Heads to Red & Black Showcase

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha softball team continues the tournament portion of its schedule, traveling to the Red & Black Showcase in Athens, Ga. this weekend.  The Mavericks open the tournament on Friday, Feb. 15 against Buffalo at 8:30 a.m. (CT), following by a 4 p.m. (CT) game against tournament host and No. 10 Georgia.  The Mavericks and Bulldogs have a rematch on Saturday at 1 p.m. (CT) before a second game against the Bulls at 3:30 p.m. (CT).  Omaha closes out the tournament on Sunday against Winthrop at 8:30 a.m. (CT).

Leading Off
• Omaha kicked off its 2019 campaign at the Lone Star Collegiate Classic going 0-5.
• The Mavericks fell 9-1 and 15-0 to Wisconsin, 13-2 to Texas Tech, 7-5 to Lamar and 4-3 to Nebraska.
• Junior Emma Dargy led UNO at the plate with a .400 average (4-for-10) with a double, home run and four RBI.
• Senior Savannah Fisher hit .375 with a pair of RBI from the designated player spot.
• Freshmen Janae Cameron and Jamie White each had solid weekends.  Cameron hit .300 with two RBI, while White batted .250 with a homer and three RBI.
• Omaha finished the 2018 season 21-30 overall and 5-9 in the Summit League.
Amanda Eberhart enters her first season at the helm of the Omaha softball program.
• The Mavericks were picked fifth in the Preseason Summit League Coaches Poll.
• Senior Natalie Mostek and sophomore Sydney Hampton were recognized as players to watch in the Summit League.
• This season's roster is comprised of 12 returning letterwinners, including seven upperclassmen, and 10 newcomers.

Scouting the Buffalo Bulls
Buffalo finished its opening weekend 0-5 at the Titan Classic in Fullerton, Calif.  The Bulls fell 11-0 to Pacific and 10-0 to Louisville.  BU also lost 5-4 to host Cal State Fullerton, 3-2 to Idaho State and 2-1 to Loyola Marymount.  

Alicia Peters leads the team at the plate with a .333 average with two doubles, while Catrell Robertson hit .214 with a homer and four RBI.

Scouting the Georgia Bulldogs
Georgia went 4-1 at the Florida Atlantic First Pitch Classic last weekend.  The Bulldogs opened with wins over St. John's (10-1), Florida Atlantic (4-1), Bethune-Cookman (12-0) and Virginia (15-7) before dropping the finale against Indiana 6-4.  UGA is ranked in the Top Ten in all three major softball polls this week: No. 6 ESPN.com/USA Softball, No. 8 Softball America and No. 10 USA Today/NFCA Coaches.

Alyssa DiCarlo leads the Bulldogs at the plate with a .615 average with a double, triple, four home runs and 11 RBI.  Alysen Febrey has two homers and seven RBI.  Georgia has used six pitchers this season and has a combined ERA of 3.16 with 21 strikeouts.

Scouting the Winthrop Eagles
Winthrop finished 3-2 at the Bash in the Boro to open the 2019 season.  The Eagles topped Savannah State (7-1 and 6-1) and Georgia Southern (10-7) but lost to Tennessee-Martin (6-4) and Saint Francis (5-4).

Keleigh Romine leads Winthrop at the plate and in the circle so far this season.  Romine is hitting .571 with a home run, two doubles and an RBI, while posting a 0.00 ERA and a 1-0 record with six strikeouts.

Omaha stays in the central time zone next weekend heading to the Michelle Short Memorial Collegiate Classic in Conway, Ark.  The Mavericks open tournament play against North Alabama and Jackson State on Friday, Feb. 22.
