Omaha Starts Second Half of League Play Against North Dakota

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's basketball team opens the second half of Summit League play this weekend, against North Dakota on Sunday, Feb. 3.  Tipoff is set for 2:30 p.m. at Baxter Arena.  

Follow the Mavericks
The game will be broadcast live on YurView Cox Channel 1013, ESPN3 and Midco with Donny Baarns and former Maverick Mikaela Shaw on the call.  Jon Shriner will have the radio call on 1180 Zone 2, and links to video, audio and stats will be available on OMavs.com.

The Opening Tip
•    Omaha snapped a five-game losing streak on Wednesday, stopping Peru State 99-47.
•    Freshman Sophie Johnston led the Mavericks with a career-high 15 points and six assists.
•    Freshman Elena Pilakouta followed with a career-best 14 points on 7-of-7 shooting.
•    Senior Romekia Wallace also scored in double figures, hitting 5-of-8 from the field en route to 10 points and six rebounds.
•    Junior Rayanna Carter added 10 points.  
•    Freshman Josie Filer grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds along with scoring five points and dishing out three assists.
•    Carter paces the Mavericks, averaging 9.9 points and 1.8 assists per game.
•    Carter and Johnston each average 1.8 assists to lead UNO.
•    Filer leads the Mavericks with 7.8 rebounds per game.
•    Omaha ranks third in the league in points per game allowed (64.5 ppg).
•    As a team, UNO ranks in the top five in seven different rebounding categories.
•    Coaches and members of the media picked Omaha to finish eighth in the Preseason Coaches Poll.
•    The Mavericks returned one starter, Claire Killian, and six letterwinners from last season's team.
•    Last season, Omaha finished 12-16 overall and sixth in The Summit League with a mark of 3-11.
•    Returning in 2018-19 for UNO are Killian, Wallace, Jay Bridgeman, Alicia Mountain, Emily Petersen and Kalen Phillips.
•    Kylee Coulter returns to action after redshirting last season.
•    The Mavericks welcome six newcomers in Carter and Juliana Chagas, and freshmen Josie Filer, Sophie Johnston, Mariah Murdie and Elena Pilakouta.

Scouting the North Dakota Fighting Hawks
North Dakota is 8-13 (3-5 Summit League) following an 80-50 loss to South Dakota last Thursday, extending the Fighting Hawks losing streak to four games.  UND visits Western Illinois on Friday, Feb. 1 before making the trek to Omaha.  Lexi Klabo and Jill Morton each scored 10 points.  Klabo added eight rebounds, while Morton had three steals.

Head coach Travis Brewster is in his seventh season with UND, carrying a career a career mark of 109-99.

Series History
Sunday's game marks the 60th meeting all-time between Omaha and North Dakota, with the Fighting Hawks leading the series, 50-9.  In the Division I era, UND has a 3-0 advantage in the series.  The two teams last met on Jan. 9 in Grand Forks, N.D., where UNO prevailed 68-57.

Omaha returns to the road on Wednesday, Feb. 6 with a visit to South Dakota at 7 p.m. in Vermillion, S.D.
