Omaha Suffers 97-56 Setback at Eastern Washington

CHENEY, Wash. -- The Omaha men's basketball team played its final road game of the non-conference slate Tuesday evening, falling 97-56 to Eastern Washington at Reese Court. The Mavericks are now 6-8 on the season, while the Eagles, who boast the nation's top-ranked scoring offense, improve to 7-3.
 
Leaders for Omaha
No Maverick scored in double figures, but Matt Pile finished with a team-high nine points. Zach Thornhill and Ayo Akinwole had eight points apiece, and Kyle Luedtke and KJ Robinson each had seven points off the bench. Wanjang Tut pulled down a team-high five rebounds.
 
Leaders for Eastern Washington
Kim Aiken Jr. (23 points, 10 rebounds) and Mason Peatling (19 points, 12 rebounds) both had double-doubles to lead EWU. Jacob Davison added 12 points, and Ellis Magnuson had another 10 alongside a game-high seven assists.
 
Team Stats
Eastern Washington hit 13 threes on the way to shooting 54.2% (39-of-72) from the field, while Omaha was held to 33.3% (21-of-63) for the night. The Eagles had a 49-32 advantage on the glass and outscored the Mavericks 52-30 in the paint and 21-6 in fastbreak points.
 
Inside the First Half
After EWU charged out to a 22-14 lead, the Mavericks managed to pull as close as three with six minutes left in the half. But a 16-1 run over the final 3:31 -- capped with an Aiken three at the buzzer -- put the Eagles in control, and they led 49-28 at the break.
 
Inside the Second Half
The run stretched to 21-1 as EWU scored the first five points of the second half. The Eagles, who were 8-of-11 to open the stanza, led by as many as 43, taking their largest lead in the final minute. Omaha was limited to 28.1% (9-of-32) shooting in the final 20 minutes.
 
Noting Tonight's Game
-Tonight's game was part of the Big Sky/Summit League Challenge series.
-Tonight marked the first time in Omaha's Division I era that the Mavericks have not had a double-figure scorer.
