Mavericks Fall 1-0 in Summit League Opener

MACOMB, Ill. – The Omaha women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 setback in the Summit League Opener at Western Illinois on Thursday afternoon in Macomb, Ill.
 
The loss drops the Mavericks to 3-7-1 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play while the Leathernecks improve to 5-5-1 (1-0-0).

How It Happened
  • Western Illinois had a pair of shots hit the crossbar in the seventh and 13th minute.
  • Omaha's first shot was taken in the 17th minute by Kaitlyn Guhl which resulted in a save by the WIU keeper.
  • The Leathernecks grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute with a penalty kick.
  • Searching for her second goal in as many matches, Laurin Mertz fired a shot into the low-center of the net, but the attempt fell into the arms of the WIU keeper.
  • Bailey Cascio's strike towards the net in the 87th minute resulted in a save to keep Mavericks scoreless.
  • The WIU keeper rejected Omaha's final attempt to tie the match in the 89th minute off the foot from Tabitha Allberg.
