OMAHA, Neb. – Every Maverick scored Wednesday night as the Omaha women's basketball team cruised past Peru State, 91-44, at Baxter Arena.
Leaders for Omaha
Freshman
Sophie Johnston led the Mavericks with a career-high 15 points and six assists. Freshman
Elena Pilakouta followed with a career-best 14 points on 7-of-7 shooting.
Senior
Romekia Wallace also scored in double figures, hitting 5-of-8 from the field en route to 10 points and six rebounds, and junior
Rayanna Carter added 10 points. Freshman
Josie Filer grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds along with scoring five points and dishing out three assists.
Redshirt freshman
Kylee Coulter chipped in nine points, while freshman
Mariah Murdie scored nine points and grabbed six boards.
Leaders for Peru State
Keaundra Washington poured in 13 points on 4-of-8 shooting with three 3-pointers. Giovanna Silva added six points and eight rebounds, while Claire Cudney scored eight points.
Team Stats
Omaha hit 52.9 percent (37-for-70) of its shots from the field, including 30.4 percent (7-of-23) from 3-point range. The Mavericks converted 58.8 percent (10-of-17) of their free throws. UNO outrebounded Peru State, 46-32, and forced the Bobcats into 15 turnovers while committing four.
Peru State shot 27.3 percent (15-of-55) from the field and 35.7 percent (5-of-14) from long range. The Bobcats hit 75.0 percent (9-of-12) of their free throws.
Inside the First Half
The Mavericks shot 55.6 percent (20-of-36) in the first half, led by eight points apiece from Carter and Pilakouta and seven from sophomore
Claire Killian. Omaha opened the game on a 12-0 run led by four points from Pilakota. The Mavericks stretched the lead to 28-6 at the end of the opening 10 minutes on a bucket by senior
Kalen Phillips.
The second quarter saw the Mavericks continue their hot shooting as the lead grew to 32 points following a 3-pointer from Killian. Peru State held Omaha scoreless the final 2:30 of the half but the Mavericks held a 46-21 advantage at the break.
Inside the Second Half
The Mavericks shot 50 percent (17-of-34) in the second half while holding the Bobcats to 25 percent (7-of-28). Johnston and Wallace paced Omaha with 10 points each. Senior
Alicia Mountain grabbed six boards in addition to two assists and two steals in the half. The Mavericks took their largest lead with 1:17 left, as
Emily Petersen hit a 3-pointer and Wallace converted in the paint to make the final 91-44.

• Omaha's 91 points was its second-highest scoring game of the season. The Mavericks scored 96 in the season opener against USC Upstate.
• UNO dished out a season-high 20 assists and committed a season-low four turnovers.
• Omaha snapped a five-game losing streak with its win Wednesday.
