Women's Basketball Wraps up Non-Conference Play

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's basketball team closes the non-conference portion of its schedule this Wednesday, Jan. 30, against Peru State.  Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at Baxter Arena.

The Opening Tip
•    Omaha is looking to snap a five-game losing streak on Wednesday.  The Mavericks dropped an 81-47 decision at South Dakota State last Sunday.
•    Freshman Mariah Murdie led UNO in scoring for the second straight game with 12 points.  Additionally, Murdie added four rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots.
•    Junior Rayanna Carter paces the Mavericks, averaging 9.9 points and 1.8 assists per game.
•    Murdie shoots a team-next 47.4 percent (55-116) from the floor.  Senior Kalen Phillips shoots a team-leading 44.2 percent (23-52) from behind the 3-point arc.
•    Freshman Josie Filer averages 7.6 rebounds per game.
•    The Mavericks have assisted on 227 of its 428 made field goals this season.
•    Omaha ranks third in the league in points per game allowed (65.2 ppg).
•    As a team, UNO ranks in the top five in three different rebounding categories.
•    Coaches and members of the media picked Omaha to finish eighth in the Preseason Coaches Poll.
•    The Mavericks returned one starter, Claire Killian, and six letterwinners from last season's team.
•    Last season, Omaha finished 12-16 overall and sixth in The Summit League with a mark of 3-11.
•    Returning in 2018-19 for UNO are Killian, Wallace, Jay Bridgeman, Alicia Mountain, Emily Petersen and Kalen Phillips.
•    Kylee Coulter returns to action after redshirting last season.
•    The Mavericks welcome six newcomers in Carter and Juliana Chagas, and freshmen Josie Filer, Sophie Johnston, Mariah Murdie and Elena Pilakouta.

Getting to Know the Omaha Mavericks
Omaha enters the week with a 6-14 overall record.  The Mavericks have lost five straight in Summit League play.

As a team, Omaha averages 58.9 points and 37.2 rebounds per game, while shooting 38.2 percent (428-1,121) from the floor.  The Mavericks shoot 29.1 percent (105-361) from 3-point distance and 70.2 percent (217-309) from the free throw line.  Defensively, UNO gives up 65.5 points and 35.8 rebounds per contest.  The opposition shoots 41.3 percent (493-1,195) from the field and 32.0 percent (147-459) from long range.

Scouting the Peru State Bobcats
Peru State enters Wednesday's game with a 2-19 overall record and a 1-16 mark in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.  The Bobcats fell 74-47 to William Penn last Saturday.

Alyssa Marsh-Contreras leads three Bobcats in double-figures, averaging 16.5 points per game.  Claire Cudney    adds 11.5 points and 9.3 rebounds, while Giovanna Silva chips in 11.4 points and 8.5 boards per game.

Peru State averages 63.0 points and 39.6 rebounds per game.  The Bobcats shoot 36.4 percent (475-1,305) from the field and 27.9 percent (107-383) from behind the 3-point arc.

Joan Albury is the interim head coach with a career mark of 20-80.

Series History
Wednesday marks the 11th regular season meeting between Omaha and Peru State.  The Mavericks have won 10 straight, including a 63-47 decision on Jan. 29, 2018.
