OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's basketball team fell 80-49 to South Dakota at Baxter Arena on Sunday.
The loss moved the Mavericks to 6-12 on the season and 1-5 in Summit League play, while the Coyotes advanced to 17-3 overall and 5-1 in conference action.

Mariah Murdie scored 12 points apiece to lead the Mavericks. Carter added three assists, three rebounds and two steals. Freshman
Josie Filer chipped in seven points and six rebounds.
Leaders for South Dakota
Five Coyotes scored in double figures, led by Ciara Duffy's 17 points. Duffy finished 6-of-12 from the floor and had six assists and three rebounds. Madison McKeever had 14 points and six assists. Allison Arens, Taylor Frederick and Hannah Sjerven each scored 12 points.

Omaha hit 39.1 percent (18-of-46) of its shots from the field, including 31.3 percent (5-of-16) from 3-point range. The Mavericks connected on 80.0 percent (8-of-10) from the free throw line. UNO committed 21 turnovers compared to 12 by South Dakota.
The Coyotes outshot the Mavericks for the game, connecting on 56.6 percent (30-of-53) of its attempts, including a 52.6 percent (10-of-19) effort from behind the arc. USD also converted 66.7 percent (10-of-15) of its free throws. South Dakota held a 23-22 rebounding advantage.
Inside the First Half
South Dakota jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the opening 3:58 of the game. Omaha evened things at 11-11 with a 7-0 spurt that was highlighted by a
Sophie Johnston 3-pointer. Arens and Frederick pushed the Coyotes back in front by five, but Carter and Murdie made back-to-back shots to pull within 18-17. Sjerven scored in the closing seconds of the quarter as South Dakota took a 23-17 lead after 10 minutes of play.
USD opened the second quarter with a 9-0 run to push its lead to 15 at 32-17 with 6:31 left. Carter sparked a 9-4 UNO spurt to cut the lead to 35-26 with under five minutes remaining. South Dakota pushed its lead back to double digits and led 44-31 at the half.
Inside the Second Half
South Dakota controlled the Mavericks in the third and fourth period, outscoring Omaha 36-18 over the next 20 minutes. USD held UNO to 26.1 percent (6-of-23) shooting from the field while connecting on 48.1 percent (13-of-27) of its shots in the half.
