Gutierrez, Veys Lead Omaha over Utah Valley

OMAHA, Neb. – Diego Gutierrez and Martin Veys each scored first half goals to lead Omaha past Utah Valley, 2-0, on Friday at Caniglia Field.

With the win, the Mavericks improved to 1-3 on the season, while the Wolverines moved to 3-2.

Gutierrez scored Omaha's first goal of the match in the 14th minute.  Seth Rinderknecht sent a long ball to Gutierrez near the top of the box where he sprinted past a Utah Valley defender before firing a shot inside the near post.  Denzel Woods also earned an assist on the play.

Gutierrez nearly extended the Mavericks' lead in the 33rd minute.    Gutierrez dribbled the ball nearly 40 yards before beating four Wolverine defenders near the top of the box and getting off a shot.  Joseph Wheelwright deflected the ball away from goal, but it landed at the right foot of Veys who slotted the ball inside the near post for a 2-0 Omaha advantage.

•    Omaha outshot Utah Valley 6-5 in the first half before the Wolverines ended the night with a 14-7 advantage.
•    Utah Valley also held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
•    Diego Gutierrez and Martin Veys each had two shots on goal.  Gutierrez ended the night with a goal and an assist while Veys tallied a goal.
•    Seth Rinderknecht and Denzel Woods also had assists.
•    Oliver Bihuniak, Zach Robbins, Gonzalo Ledesma and Youde (Junior) Noutoua each made their first appearances of the season.
•    Ugo Tritz started and played a full 90 minutes, making seven saves and earning his first win of the season.
•    There were 32 total fouls and five yellow cards in tonight's match.  Utah Valley received three cards while Omaha was given two.
