Mavericks Close Non-Conference At UTRGV

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's soccer team concludes non-conference play this Sunday, Sept. 23, visiting UTRGV.  Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at the UTRGV Soccer Complex in Edinburg, Texas.  The game will be broadcast live on the WAC Digital Network.  Links to live video and stats are available on OMavs.com

From the Goal Line
  • Sunday's game in Edinburg, Texas, marks the first time Omaha will square off with UTRGV.
  • On Wednesday, the Mavericks snapped a two-match losing streak with a 2-1 victory over  Drake at Caniglia Field.
  • Bailey Cascio led the Mavericks with a goal and an assist.  Tabitha Allberg added her first career goal, while Andrea Daves chipped in two assists.
  • Daves leads the team with five points on a goal and three assists.  Casico is next with four points on a goal and two assists.
  • Eighteen different players have started at least one game for Omaha this season with seven of those players being freshmen.
  • The Mavericks return 14 letterwinners and eight starters from last year's squad that finished 6-10-1.  Omaha notched a fifth-place finish in the Summit League with a 3-4 record.
  • Head coach Tim Walters is in his second season at the helm of the Maverick women's soccer program.

Scouting Omaha
Omaha is 3-6-1 this season following a 2-1 victory over Drake on Wednesday.  UNO is 0-5-1 on the road this season and 3-1 at Canglia Field.

Andrea Daves took over the team lead in points and assists with a pair of assists against the Bulldogs.  Daves has five points on a goal and three assists.  Bailey Cascio has four points on a goal and two assists while Emily Romero has three points on a goal and an assist.  Tabitha Allberg, Hannah Heinemann and Brylie Meyer each have one goal.

Erin Bunker is 3-2 in five starts with a 1.33 goals-against average and .684 save percentage.  Ina Gudjonsdottir has appeared in six matches with five starts.  Gudjonsdottir is 0-4-1 on the season with a 1.57 goals-against average and .727 save percentage.  

Scouting UTRGV
UTRGV is 5-4-1 this season following a 3-1 victory over Texas Lutheran on Thursday evening.  The Vaqueros are 3-1-0 at home this season but 2-3-1 on the road.

Sarah Bonney and Emily Zapata share the team lead with five goals apiece.  Zapata has a team-high 11 points while Bonney has 10.

Kinga Szemik has started nine games this year for UTRGV.  Szemik is 4-4-1 with a 1.37 goals-against average and a .760 save percentage.  Maile Lunardi has appeared in three games with one start.  Lunardi is 1-0 with a 1.26 goals-against average and a .778 save percentage.

Sunday's match is the first meeting all-time between Omaha and UTRGV.

Omaha opens Summit League play with a pair of road contests next weekend.  The Mavericks open league play on Thursday, Sept. 27, traveling to Oral Roberts.  Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. in Tulsa, Okla.  UNO then heads west to play Denver on Sunday, Sept. 30.  Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. (CT) at CIBER Field.
