Volleyball Falls 3-2 In Exhibition At Missouri State

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Omaha volleyball team fell 3-2 on the road at Missouri State in a five-set match Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 15.

The Mavericks took the third and fifth sets in the contest (25-19, 15-9), while the Bears recorded victories in the first (25-20), second (25-12) and fourth (25-16) sets.
 
Leaders for Omaha 
Jaclyn Taylor recorded a double-double of 37 assists and 14 digs to go with four blocks, while Claire Mountjoy had a team-high 18 digs. Anna Blaschko tallied a team-high nine kills off 11 attacks for a team-best .818 hitting percentage, along with six total blocks. The trio of Mackenzie Horkey, and newcomers Sadie Limback and Claire Leonard all tallied eight kills apiece, while Isabella Sade notched six kills with three blocks.

Leaders for Missouri State
Daniele Messa totaled a double-double of 25 assists and 11 digs, while teammate Emily Butters had a team-high 35 digs. Laynie Dake and Aubrey Cheffey recorded double-digit kills with 13 and 10, respectively.

Team Stats
The Bears held a 61-48 advantage on kills, digs (83-72) and assists (59-47), while the Mavericks won the blocking category (12-4). Missouri State totaled a .231 hitting percentage compared to Omaha's .123.  
 
Inside Set 1
Omaha opened the first set with a 5-2 lead after an error by Missouri State. The Mavericks continued the strong start as they increased the lead to 13-7. The Bears, however were able to climb back into the match to retake a 15-14 lead and eventually take the first set 25-20. Blaschko led the way with three kills off a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage to go with three blocks in the set.
 
Inside Set 2
The Mavericks found themselves in an 8-2 hole early in the second set. Sade was able to get a kill to end the run, but the Bears were able to follow up with a 10-4 run to increase the Maverick deficit to 10 at 16-6. From there, Missouri State was able to cruise to a 25-12 win in the second set to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
 
Inside Set 3
With four lead changes in the early portion of the set, Omaha sparked a 6-0 run after being tied 14-all to gain a 6-point advantage. Missouri State rattled off three straight kills, but saw the spurt end with a service error. Horkey blasted two kills to maintain the Maverick lead, followed by Limback, who recorded a kill to make it 24-19. An error by the Bears helped the Mavericks win the set 25-19. Overall, Omaha closed out the set on an 11-5 run.
 
Inside Set 4
The Bears sparked a 5-0 lead to open the fourth set, as the Mavericks could never erase the deficit. Omaha cut the Missouri State lead at two on three separate occasions (10-8, 16-14, 18-16). The Bears, however, closed out the set on a 7-0 run to make it 25-16 and take a 3-1 match lead.

Inside Set 5
The Mavericks jumped out to a 11-3 lead that was capped off by a service ace by Horkey and a Leonard  kill. From there, Omaha never looked back with a balanced attack off kills from Leonard and Limback to conclude the set at 15-9.
