BYU Takes Game Two of Weekend Series From Mavericks, 13-3

PROVO, Utah -- The Omaha baseball team continued its series at BYU Friday night, falling 13-3 at Miller Park. The Mavericks are now 4-10 on the year, while the Cougars are 7-6.

Braden Rogers finished 2-for-3 at the plate, driving in a run for Omaha. Tyler Daugherty was 1-for-2 with a run scored and a pair of walks.

The win went to BYU reliever Blake Inouye (1-1), who threw 4.0 innings and held Omaha to a run on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Joey Machado (0-3) took the loss, allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits and four walks with two strikeouts over 4.1 innings.

The Cougars, who totaled 14 hits on the night, were led by Brian Hsu's 4-for-5 showing with a home run, three runs scored and three RBI.

BYU wasted no time in building its lead, scoring a run in the bottom of the first and three more in the second.

Omaha struck back for a pair in the fourth, started off with Thomas DeBonville's leadoff four-pitch walk. After he stole second, Grant Suponchick drew another free pass, and both runners moved into scoring position on a passed ball. Keil Krumwiede followed with a sacrifice fly to center to score DeBonville, and Rogers added an RBI single to right to plate Suponchick, which cut BYU's lead in half at 4-2.

The Mavericks put up another run in the fifth to make it a one-run ballgame at 4-3. With one out, Daugherty singled to center and Adam Caniglia doubled down the right field line, followed Daugherty scoring as Cole Thibodeau reached on a fielder's choice.

But BYU plated nine unanswered runs from there with two in the bottom half of the fifth, three in the sixth and two apiece in the seventh and eighth to go up 13-3.

Omaha and BYU conclude their set on Saturday, March 10, with first pitch slated for Noon CT. Links to live video, audio and stats will be available on OMavs.com.
