STILLWATER, Okla. – Demi Dobbs and
Kelly Pattison each hit solo home runs to lift Omaha over Maine 4-2 on the final day of the Mizuno Classic at Cowgirl Stadium.
Dobbs led the Mavericks at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and home run along with two RBI.
Emily Klosterman finished 2-for-3 at the dish with a pair of doubles and an RBI. Pattison went 1-for-3 with a homer.
Sydney Hampton started and pitched 3.0 innings allowing one run on two hits and a walk with three strikeouts.
Aubrey Hacke (2-3) threw 4.0 innings in relief allowing one unearned run on two hits and two walks.
Omaha struck for two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Natalie Mostek led off with a walk and promptly stole second. Klosterman laced a two-out double pitch to centerfield to score Mostek. Dobbs then rifled a 2-2 offering down the right-field line to score Klosterman and put UNO in front 2-0.
Maine's Maddie Decker cut the lead to 2-1 with a solo home run in the top of the second inning. After allowing the next batter to single, Hampton settled down striking out two to end the inning.
The Mavericks added a run in the bottom half of the third on Pattison's solo home run. Dobbs made it a 4-1 game with her first homer in an Omaha uniform.
The Black Bears scored an unearned run in the top of the sixth inning to cut the lead to 4-2.
Hacke retired the first two batters in the top of the seventh. A walk followed by a two-out single brought the tying run to the plate, but Hacke got a pop out to end the game.
Omaha returns to action on Thursday, March 8, with a midweek visit to Coppin State. First pitch is set for Noon (CT) from Baltimore, Md.
