ST. PAUL, Minn. – Omaha senior
Tyler Vesel was named the winner of the NCHC's Senior Scholar Athlete Award today. The honor was announced at the annual NCHC awards dinner held on the eve of the Frozen Faceoff at the Xcel Energy Center.
Vesel has a 3.86 grade-point average in exercise science and is a four-time NCHC Academic All-Conference honoree. He's also been named an NCHC Scholar Athlete three times. Last year, he was the co-winner of the NCHC's Sportsmanship Award.
Vesel finished his senior year as the Mavericks' second-leading scorer, notching 11 goals and 21 assists for 32 points while playing in all 36 games. He led all UNO forwards with 31 blocked shots.
The native of Rochester, Minn. became the 16th player in school history to reach 100 career points in 2017-18. He finished his career with 39 goals and 69 assists for 108 points in 149 games. He ranks 13th in career points at UNO and is tied for 11th in career assists.

Joel Messner was announced as the winner of the NCHC's post-graduate scholarship.
Vesel also was a finalist for the NCHC's Defensive Forward of the Year Award.

David Pope was a finalist for NCHC Player of the Year, Forward of the Year and NCHC Three Stars Award. Messner was a finalist for Defensive Defenseman.
