ELMHURST, Ill. – The Summit League announced today that Omaha track & field athletes
Stephanie Ahrens and
Lauren Houston have been named to the Indoor Academic All-League teams.
Ahrens and Houston are two of 11 student-athletes recognized for academic and athletic achievement.
Ahrens, a senior, was the indoor high jump champion and an All-Summit performer, posting a mark of 5-08 ½ at the Summit Championships in February. She posted the Summit's best jump in the event, 5-09 ¾, at the Nebraska Tune-Up on Feb. 16.
The native of Lincoln, Neb. owns the school indoor high jump record at 5-10 ¾. She is the two-time defending Summit League champion in the event outdoors and qualified for the NCAA Regionals last season. She is a three-time member of the Summit League Academic Honor Roll, has twice been named to the Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence as well as being named a Summit Distinguished Scholar. She is majoring in architectural engineering.
Houston, a junior, was the runner up in the 800 meters at the Summit Championships in February with a time of 2:11.35. She earned All-Summit honors for her performance. She put up the league's second-best mark in the event during the championship preliminaries, running an adjusted time of 2:09.86.
The native of Omaha also was an All-Summit performer indoors in the 800 meters as a freshman, finishing runner up in the event that year as well. She is a two-time member of the Summit League Academic Honor Roll and also has been named to the Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence and a Distinguished Scholar. She is majoring in elementary education.
The Mavericks open the outdoor season at the Tulsa Duels on Friday and Saturday, March 16-17.
