Oral Roberts Denies Mavericks, 83-75

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's basketball team opened its final homestand of the season Thursday night, falling 83-75 to Oral Roberts at Baxter Arena.
 
Leaders for Omaha
Junior Zach Jackson finished with a game-high 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting alongside a team-leading eight rebounds and a steal. Classmate Mitch Hahn scored a season-high 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting with five 3-pointers, adding four boards, two assists, two steals and a block.
 
Senior Daniel Norl also had 10 points with a pair of threes, two rebounds and three assists. Sophomore JT Gibson dished out a game-leading five helpers as well.
 
Leaders for Oral Roberts
Five ORU scorers finished in double figures, led by a double-double from Javan White on 14 points and 12 rebounds with three assists and three steals. Albert Owens scored a team-best 21 points, and Austin Ruder had another 17. Jontray Harris (110 and Sam Kearns (10) rounded it out.
 
Team Stats
Omaha shot .492 (31-of-63) to ORU's .485 (32-of-66). The Golden Eagles had a 38-29 rebounding advantage, including 14-7 on the offensive glass, and capitalized with 16 second-chance points. The Mavericks committed a season-low six turnovers for the night.
 
Inside the First Half
Down nine with 7:25 left in the first half, Omaha rattled off a 9-0 run to tie it at 30-30. Hahn's fourth triple put the Mavericks ahead 33-32, but the Golden Eagles responded with one of their own to take the lead again. A pair of free throws from Jackson then locked the game in a 35-35 tie at the break. Omaha's junior duo accounted for 27 of the Mavericks' 35 points in the first 20 minutes, as Hahn poured in 16 with four 3-pointers, and Jackson had another 11.
 
Inside the Second Half
Jackson came up with 15 points in the second stanza, hitting 6-of-8 from the field, and Norl had another 10. ORU broke away from a 47-all tie with 12:45 left with a 9-2 run, and though Omaha got within one on a Norl layup at 7:16, the Golden Eagles held off any further threat with the help of a late 9-0 spurt.
