OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's basketball team fell to South Dakota 75-50 on Wednesday evening at Baxter Arena in the annual Pink Game for Breast Cancer Awareness.
Leaders for Omaha
Amber Vidal's eighth 20-point scoring performance of the season came on a game-high 20 points on 7-of-18 shooting with two assists.
Emily Petersen added eight points with three assists and two boards.
Courtney Vaccher chipped in six points and five rebounds.
Claire Killian scored six points, four rebounds and two assists.
Leaders for South Dakota
Kate Liveringhouse led four Coyotes in double figures with 14 points, five rebounds and three assists. Allison Arens added 12 points and three assists. Chloe Lamb and Jasmine Trimboli each had 10 points.
Team Stats
USD shot .464 (26-of-56) compared to Omaha's 18-of-55 (18-of-55). The Coyotes connected on .750 (15-of-20) from the free throw line, while the Mavericks shot .500 (8-of-16) from the line. South Dakota held a slight edge in rebounding 33-31, but Omaha held a 14-12 advantage on the offensive glass.
Inside the First Half
South Dakota built a 10-point lead 3:33 into the first quarter, but the Mavericks used an 8-2 run, highlighted by a Killian 3-pointer, to pull within four with 2:24 remaining in the period. The two teams exchanged baskets to end the stanza with the Coyotes leading 17-13.
USD limited UNO to three points over the first 6:55 of the second quarter and built a 27-16 lead. Vaccher and Vidal scored Omaha's final seven points in the first half as the Mavericks trailed 34-23 at the half.
Inside the Second Half
Vidal, who was limited to eight points in the first two quarters, came out in the second half to shoot 4-of-10 for 12 more points. South Dakota shot .500 (12-of-24) in the second half while Omaha shot .310 (9-of-29). The Coyotes also connected on .800 (12-of-15) from the free throw line compared to .500 (7-of-14) at the stripe. Arens scored nine points in the second stanza, including going 7-for-8 at the charity stripe. USD took its largest lead with 6:47 left in regulation, going in front 68-40. The led by at least 22 the rest of the way.
Noting Tonight's Game
- Omaha is now 11-13 (2-11 Summit League) on the season, while South Dakota improved to 22-5 (12-0).
- The Coyotes have now won 15 straight games.
- Vidal has led the Mavericks in scoring 12 times this season and has been in double figures 11 times.
