Hahn, Pile Power Omaha Past Idaho, 89-80

MOSCOW, Idaho -- The Omaha men's basketball team led nearly the entire way Saturday afternoon, picking up an 89-80 road win over Idaho at the Cowan Spectrum. The Mavericks are now 4-7 on the season, while the Vandals drop to 3-7.
 
Leaders for Omaha
Five Mavericks scored in double figures on the day, led by a season-high 21 points from Mitch Hahn, whose performance included a 7-of-13 effort from the field with four 3-pointers, six rebounds and an assist. Matt Pile recorded his third double-double of the year with 13 points and a season-high-tying 11 boards along with a game-best four assists.
 
JT Gibson (15), Ayo Akinwole (13) and KJ Robinson (12) also tallied in double digits. Robinson drained three 3-pointers and added four helpers to match Pile.
 
Leaders for Idaho
Idaho also had four scorers in double figures, led by 15 points and eight rebounds from Trevon Allen. Geno West and Marquell Fraser each had 14 points, followed by 12 from Jared Rodriguez and 10 more from RayQuawndis Mitchell.
 
Team Stats
Omaha shot .477 (31-of-65) from the floor with 10 3-pointers, while Idaho finished at .464 (26-of-56) with 10 triples of their own. The Vandals had a slight edge on the glass, 36-34, but Omaha forced 18 turnovers on the day while committing a season-low seven of their own. The Mavericks scored 22 points off miscues.
 
Inside the First Half
An 11-0 run midway through the opening half powered the Mavericks, who went up 26-15 at 7:48. The lead extended to as much as 14, when a Gibson jumper made it 31-17 with just under seven minutes to the break. Behind 10 first-half points from Hahn, the Mavericks held a 38-35 advantage at the intermission.
 
Inside the Second Half
Idaho cut the Maverick lead to one to open the second stanza, after which Omaha responded with a 7-0 run sparked by a Hahn trey. Robinson later knocked down three straight 3-pointers in a span of 94 seconds to give Omaha its largest lead at 63-45 with 9:20 left. 
 
The Vandals managed to pull within five in the final minute, but the Mavericks hit 8-of-8 from the free throw line over the final 53 seconds to seal the game.
