Omaha Visits Detroit Mercy, Hosts Graceland

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's basketball team returns to action this week with a pair of games.  The Mavericks conclude a three-game road trip against Detroit Mercy on Thursday, Nov. 29.  Tipoff is set for 10 a.m. (CT) at Calihan Hall in Detroit, Mich.  Omaha then hosts Graceland on Sunday, Dec. 2.  Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Baxter Arena.

From the Baseline
•    Last weekend, Omaha went 1-1 at the Florida International Thanksgiving Tournament in Miami.
•    UNO lost its opener 65-52 to Campbell on Friday.
•    Omaha bounced back with a 57-50 victory over Florida A&M on Sunday.
•    Freshman Josie Filer earned a spot on the all-tournament team by averaging 9.0 points and 12.0 rebounds.
•    Freshman Elena Pilakouta averaged 11.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in the two games.
•    So far this season, Omaha's starting lineup has featured one returning starter, two freshmen and a transfer.
•    Last season, the Mavericks finished 12-16 and placed seventh in The Summit League with a mark of 3-11.
•    The Mavericks return six letterwinners, including one starter, and a redshirt player from last season.
•    There are seven newcomers on the roster in 2018-19, including three junior transfers and four freshmen.
•    The Summit League Preseason Coaches' Poll picked Omaha to finish eighth this season.

Scouting the Omaha Mavericks
Omaha is 2-3 on the season after splitting a pair of games at the FIU Thanksgiving Tournament.  The Mavericks topped Florida A&M 57-50 in Miami on Sunday. 

Elena Pilakouta leads the Mavericks in scoring, averaging 10.0 points per game. Pilakouta also has a team-best 13 assists. Claire Killian is second in scoring, averaging 9.6 points per game and leads the team with nine 3-pointers and 10 steals.  Josie Filer leads the team in rebounding with 8.8 boards per game.

Omaha averages 60.6 points and 40.4 rebounds per game.  The Mavericks shoot 67.4 percent from the free throw line.

Scouting the Detroit Mercy Titans
Detroit Mercy earned a 58-56 road victory at Manhattan last Saturday to improve to 2-4 on the season.

Lexy Tobel leads the Titans in scoring, averaging 13.3 points per game and leads the team with seven 3-pointers and 12 assists.  Zoey Oatis is second in scoring and rebounding, averaging 10.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.  Paige Bellman leads the team in rebounding with 6.5 caroms per game.

Detroit Mercy averages 55.2 points and 38.8 rebounds per game.  The Titans shoot 27.0 percent from long range and 66.4 percent at the line.

The Titans returned five letterwinners, including two starters, from last year's team that finished 2-28 overall.  The Horizon League Preseason Poll picked Detroit Mercy to finish ninth this season.

History
Thursday is the first all-time meeting between the two programs.

Scouting the Graceland Yellowjackets
Graceland earned a 77-37 win over Peru State on Tuesday to improve to 8-1 overall and 2-1 in the Heart of America.

Sarai Rodriguez leads the Yellowjackets in scoring, averaging 21.1 points per game.  Christacia Dawkins and Jaycee Cleaver are second and third in scoring, averaging 11.7 points and 11.2 points per game, respectively.

The Heart of America Preseason Coaches' Poll picked Graceland to finish 11th after finishing 8-22 overall and 4-15 in conference play.

History
Omaha leads the all-time meeting with Graceland 3-0.  In the last meeting, the Mavericks topped Graceland 109-59 on Nov. 6 at Baxter Arena.

Omaha returns to action on Wednesday, Dec. 5, visiting Creighton.  Tipoff at the Rasmussen Center is set for 7 p.m.
