Witchayapat Sinsrang set a school record with a final round score of 65 to lead the Omaha men's golf team to a tie for eighth at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
Sinsrang, known as "Tiger" to his teammates, fired seven birdies during the final round of the 54-hole event, eclipsing by one stroke the previous record set by teammate
Kevin Gordon on Sept. 25 in the final round of the Derek Dolenc Invitational at SIUE. His round tied for the second-lowest round of the tournament.
Sinsrang, who started the final round on the 10th hole, was sharp all day but particularly down the stretch when he posted four birdies on the back side. That included three straight from holes 6-8. He finished in a tie for fourth in the field of 92 golfers with a total of 207, one stroke off tying Gordon's school record for best 54-hole score. Overall, Sinsrang was six under par for the tournament.
The Mavericks tied with North Dakota State for eighth in the field of 18 teams with a score of 881. Their final-round score of 287 is the third-lowest team total of the fall.
Campbell won the event with a total of 818. UNC Wilmington was second at 837, and Drexel finished third at 864. It was the Mavericks' final tournament of the fall season.
Gordon was second for the Mavericks and 28th overall with a total of 218. He finished the fall with a three-over round of 74 that featured four birdies.
Cole Christain was third on the team and finished in a tie for 56th with a score of 228 that included a final round of 72, one over par.
Jonah Wright was two strokes back at 230 after carding a final-round score of 76. He tied for 63rd.
Nick Kagy finished the scoring for the Mavericks with a final round of 78 that left him at 240 for the tournament, good for a tie for 84th.
Gordon finished the fall as the team's scoring leader with a stroke average of 71.1. Sinsrang is second at 73.4, and Christain is third at 75.8.
The Mavericks resume play next spring at The Invitational at Savannah Harbor on Feb. 16-17.
