Hammer, Woods Lead Omaha Past FGCU

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's soccer team scored a goal in each half to defeat Florida Gulf Coast 2-0 on Saturday at Caniglia Field.  

With the win, the Mavericks improved to 4-6-1, while the Eagles fell to 7-5-1.

Denzel Woods scored Omaha's first goal of the match midway through the first half.  Ethan Bowman gathered a loose ball in the penalty area before being fouled by Jahan Rajaee and earning a penalty kick.  Denzel Woods placed his kick inside the near post for a 1-0 lead.

The Mavericks extended their lead with a goal in the 63rd minute.  Mitch Hammer scored his second goal of the season to give Omaha a 2-0 edge.  Diego Gutierrez played a ball towards the top of the 18-yard box where Hammer gathered the pass and fired a shot past the Eagles' goalkeeper.

•    Florida Gulf Coast outshot Omaha 12-11 and held a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
•    Both teams placed five shots on goal.
•    The goal by Woods was the first of his career.
•    Hammer's goal was the second in as many games for the sophomore.

•    Ugo Tritz played a full 90 minutes and made five saves while earning his third shutout of the season.
•    There were 30 fouls, four yellow cards and one red card issued in Saturday's match.
