Women’s Soccer Hosts Two Pivotal League Matches

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's soccer team hosts a pair of Summit League matches this week.  The Mavericks welcome North Dakota on Thursday, Oct. 11, before hosting South Dakota on Sunday, Oct. 14.  Kickoff for Thursday's matchup is schedule for 7 p.m., while Sunday's game is set for 5 p.m.

From the Goal Line
•    Omaha snapped a three-match losing streak last Friday, against Purdue Fort Wayne 2-0.
•    Sophomore Bailey Cascio and senior Erinoelle Clifton scored for the Mavericks, while Clifton, sophomore Andrea Daves and freshmen Tabitha Allberg and Hannah Heinemann each earned assists.
•    Freshman Ina Gudjonsdottir picked up her first win of the season and made three saves. 
•    Bailey Cascio leads Omaha in points (eight) and goals (three), while Andrea Daves leads the team with four assists.
•    Daves, Erinoelle Clifton and Emily Romero (Sr.) and Tabitha Allberg, Hannah Heinemann and Brylie Meyer (Fr.) each have one goal.
•    Ina Gudjonsdottir has appeared in eight matches with seven starts.  Gudjonsdottir is 1-5-1 with a 1.28 goals-against average and a .773 save percentage.
•    Junior goalkeeper Erin Bunker has started seven matches this season and is 3-4 with two shutouts.  Bunker has a 1.69 goals-against average and a .676 save percentage.
•    Seven different Mavericks have scored a goal this season.
•    The Mavericks return 14 letterwinners and eight starters from last year's squad that finished 6-10-1.  Omaha notched a fifth-place finish in the Summit League with a 3-4 record.
•    Head coach Tim Walters is in his second season at the helm of the Maverick women's soccer program.
•    Summit League head coaches voted the Mavericks to finish seventh in the Preseason Coaches' Poll.

Scouting Omaha
Omaha is 4-9-1 this season and 1-2-0 in The Summit League after topping Purdue Fort Wayne last week.  The Mavericks are 4-1-0 at home and 0-8-1 on the road.
Bailey Cascio leads the team with eight points and three goals.  Andrea Daves has a team-high four assists to go with a goal for six points.  Tabitha Allberg, Erinoelle Clifton Hannah Heinemann and Emily Romero each have three points on a goal and an assist.  Brylie Meyer one goal, while senior Cydney Skinner and junior Sophia Roux each have an assist.
Erin Bunker and Ina Gudjonsdottir have split time in goal this season for Omaha.  Bunker has seven starts and has a 3-4 record with two shutouts and a .676 save percentage.   Gudjonsdottir has eight appearance and seven starts with 1-5-1 record and a shutout.  She also has 1.28 goals-against average and a .773 save percentage.
Tim Walters is in his second season as head coach of the Mavericks, posting a 10-19-2 mark.  He is assisted by Kelly Farrell, Nick Miller and Ava Doetsch.

Scouting the North Dakota Fighting Hawks
•    North Dakota is 8-3-1 overall and 2-1-0 in Summit League play.  The Fighting Hawks dropped a 2-1 decision to North Dakota State last Sunday.
•    The Fighting Hawks outscore their opponents by a 32-4 margin, and 7-2 in league play.
•    UND holds a 199-137 advantage in shots, but trail 54-48 in corner kicks.
•    Head coach Chris Logan is in his second season at North Dakota with a 14-11-5 mark and holds a career mark of 22-19-8 in three seasons.
•    Associate head coach Joshua Davis and assistant coach Amanda Raso round out the UND staff.

Tracking the Fighting Hawks
•    No. 20 Katie Moller (F,Sr.): Leads the Summit League with 24 points and 10 goals…two-time Summit League Offensive Player of the Week (8/20, 9/17).
•    No. 7 Cassie Giddings (F, Fr.): 13 points on five goals and three assists…ranks third in the league in total points.
•    No. 21 Olivia Knox (F, Fr.): nine points on two goals and five assists…ranks fifth in the league in assists.
•    No. 0 Olivia Swenson (GK, Sr.): 8-3-1 with seven shutouts and one shared shutout…has a 0.34 goals-against average with a .926 save percentage…leads the league in save percentage, fewest goals allowed (four) and goals-against average…named Summit League Defensive Player of the Week (9/4).

Series History
Thursday's meeting will be the 22nd all-time meeting between Omaha and North Dakota.  The Mavericks lead the series 15-4-2 and 2-0-2 in the Division I era.  Last season, the two teams played to a scoreless draw in Grand Forks, N.D.

Scouting the South Dakota Coyotes
•    South Dakota is 7-4-2 overall and 2-1 in Summit League play.  The Coyotes have won two straight matches, defeating Western Illinois, 2-1, and Oral Roberts, 3-1.
•    The Coyotes outscore their opponents by a 24-16 margin, and 5-4 in league play.
•    The opposition have outshot USD 180-128 and lead 74-46 in corner kicks.
•    Head coach Michael Thomas is in his first season at South Dakota with a 7-4-2 mark and holds a 38-71-18 career record in seven seasons.
•    Head coach Chris Logan is in his second season at North Dakota with a 14-11-5 mark and holds a career mark of 22-19-8 in three seasons.
•    Assistant coach Will Lemke and graduate assistant Massie Burdick round out the USD coaching staff.

Tracking the Coyotes
•    No. 28 Taryn LaBree (F, Jr.): Leads the team with 13 points and five goals…tied for third in the Summit League in points…two-time Summit League Offensive Player of the Week (9/24, 10/8).
•    No. 2 Kellee Willer (F, Jr.): Ranks third in the Summit League with five assists…has 11 points on three goals and a team-best five assists.
•    No. 18 Tiannah Moore (F, Fr.): 10 points on four goals and two assists.
•    No. 14 Amanda Carpio (MF, Jr.): four goals.
•    No. 1 Parker Rytz (GK, Sr.): has a 7-4-2 record with four shutouts…1.29 goals-against average and a .778 save percentage…ranks fourth in saves (56) and fifth in save percentage and goals-against average…named Summit League Defensive Player of the Week on Aug. 27

Series History
Sunday's meeting will be the 20th all-time meeting between Omaha and South Dakota.  The Mavericks lead the series 16-2-1 and 3-2-1 in the Division I era.  Last season, UNO topped USD 2-1 in overtime at Caniglia Field.

The Mavericks hit the road for a pair of matches next weekend.  Omaha visits South Dakota State on Friday, Oct. 19, and North Dakota State on Sunday, Oct. 21.  Kickoff in Brookings, S.D., is at 6 p.m., while Sunday's match in Fargo, N.D., is at 1 p.m.
