Omaha Hosts Missouri State, Visits UMKC

OMAHA, Neb. – Following a tough two-game road trip, the Omaha women's soccer team returns to Caniglia Field to host Missouri State on Friday, Sept. 8 at 4:30 p.m.  The Mavericks then open a three-game road trip by visiting UMKC on Sunday, Sept. 10 at 1 p.m.

Scouting Omaha
The Mavericks are 0-4-1 after a scoreless draw at North Dakota last Friday. 

Natalie Johnson leads the team with two points and one goal.  Cydney Skinner leads with one assist.  Goalkeeper Haley Johnson (0-2) leads the team with a 2.00 goals-against average and 18 saves, while Erin Bunker (0-2) has a 4.00 goals-against average with seven saves.

UNO finished the 2016 season with a 5-11-3 record and a 3-4-1 mark in Summit League play.  The Mavericks return six starters from a season ago, including their top three scorers.  

Carlie Cook led the team in points (15) and goals (six) last season.  Lydia Holtmann tallied 10 points (four goals, two assists) while Emily Romero had a team-best five assists.

The Mavericks also return Erin Dimon and Sophia Roux.  Roux earned a spot on the All-Summit Newcomer team in 2016.

Jessica Bollinger helped anchor a UNO defense that produced four shutouts in 2016.  Bunker appeared in four games with three starts last season and posted a 1.39 goals-against average with 13 saves.

The Mavericks welcome 11 newcomers in freshmen Bailey Cascio, Andrea Daves, Sarah Doran, Emily Fontana, Sydney Randall, Maggie Tulay and Lauren Witte and transfers Johnson, Erinoelle Clifton, Susie Dineen and Jaden Thiem.

Scouting the Missouri State Bears
•    2017 Record: 2-4 (0-0 MVC)
    •    Missouri State is 2-2 in its last four games.
    •    MSU defeated Central Arkansas (1-0) and SEMO (2-0) and lost to Little Rock (2-0) and Saint Louis (3-0).
•    Key Players (7 returning starters and 14 letterwinners)
    •    Brooke Prondzinski: All-MVC Second Team (2015); leads the Bears with two goals and an assist this season.

History vs. Missouri State
Missouri State leads the all-time series with Omaha, 4-0-1.  The Bears defeated the Mavericks last season 2-1 in Springfield, Mo.

Scouting the UMKC Kangaroos
•    2017 Record: 2-4 (0-0 WAC)
    •    UMKC has dropped its past two games and will play at Creighton on Friday, Sept. 8.
    •    Last weekend, the Kangaroos fell 2-1 at Drake and 2-0 at Iowa State.
•    Key Players (10 returning starters and 13 letterwinners)
    •    Lexie Howard leads the team with seven points on three goals and an assist.
    •    Kelsey Mothershead has three points on a goal and an assist.

History vs. UMKC
Omaha leads the all-time series with UMKC 2-1.  Last season, the Mavericks topped the Kangaroos 2-0 at Caniglia Field.

Last Time Out
Omaha earned a 0-0 draw against North Dakota last Friday at Bronson Field.

In a match that featured a combined 30 shot attempts, neither team's offense was able to find the back of the net after 110 minutes of action.

The Mavericks managed five shots in the final five minutes of the match but were unable to score the game-winner.  

North Dakota outshot Omaha 16-14, but the Mavericks held a 6-2 lead in shots on goal.  Emily Romero led Omaha with five shots.  Cydney Skinner had three shots with two on goal.

Up Next
The Mavericks visit cross-town foe Creighton on Saturday, Sept. 16.  Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Morrison Stadium.
