Omaha Falls to Northern Illinois, 1-0

OREM, Utah – The Omaha men's soccer team dropped their first game of the season to Northern Illinois 1-0 Friday evening in Orem, Utah.

Northern Illinois' goal came in the 38th-minute when Alex Welch intercepted an errant pass in the midfield.  Welch slipped a pass through the Omaha defense to Jan Maertins who placed his shot in the bottom of the corner of the net to put the Huskies up 1-0.

•    Omaha outshot Northern Illinois 12-11 in the match, but NIU held a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal.
•    Goalkeeper Joseph Ghitis played the full 90 minutes and made five saves.
•    Elvir Ibisevic led the Mavericks with four shots (one on goal).  Emmanuel Hamzat and Tim Kaftan each had two shots.
•    Omaha was called for 12 fouls and received one yellow card, while Northern Illinois had 11 fouls, three yellow cards and two red cards.
