CHENEY, Wash. – The Omaha women's soccer team dropped its season opener 5-1 to Eastern Washington on Friday evening at the EWU Soccer Field.

Eastern Washington's Chloe Williams scored the first goal of the match in the third minute.  Williams took a pass from Aimie Inthoulay and scored from 15-yards out for a 1-0 Eagles lead.  Saige Lyons gave EWU a 2-0 lead in the 23rd minute.

Omaha got on the board late in the first half.  Cydney Skinner dribbled into the penalty area and found Natalie Johnson near the center of the goal.  Johnson settled the pass and drilled a shot that beat Eagle keeper Hadley Bezon to make the score 2-1 at halftime. 

In the second half, Jenny Chavez put EWU ahead 3-0 by heading home an Allison Raniere corner kick in the 64th minute.  Williams set up Alexis Stephenson for a goal in the 71st minute.   Brenna Blaser's shot in the 87th minute hit the crossbar and bounced in to make the final 5-1.

Turning Point
Williams scored the first Eastern Washington goal of the season in the second minute to give the Eagles an early 1-0 lead.

Inside the Box Score
•    The Maverick offense struggled as Eastern Washington outshot Omaha 10-3 in the second half, and 15-6 for the game.
•    Natalie Johnson had three shots (two on goal).
•    Cydney Skinner tallied her first collegiate point with the assist to Johnson.
•    Erin Bunker (0-1) took the loss between the posts for Omaha, making two saves.
•    Five different Eastern Washington players scored in its season opener.  Williams led the way for EWU with a goal and an assist.
