Box Score LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Omaha baseball team was shut out at No. 6 Louisville in Sunday's series finale, falling 6-0 at Jim Patterson Stadium. The Mavericks are now 1-7 (0-0 Summit League), while the Cardinals improve to 7-0 (0-0 ACC).
The win went to Cardinal starter Michael McAvene (1-0), who threw 5.0 innings of four-hit shutout ball, walking two and striking out 11. The freshman downed eight of his first 12 batters faced on strikeouts. Sophomore right-hander Grant Suponchick (0-2) took the loss, holding Louisville to two runs on seven hits with no walks and four strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work.
Sophomore Parker Smejkal led Omaha at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a walk. Junior Adam Caniglia, sophomore Riley Herold and redshirt freshman Andrew Hall each had a hit as well.
Louisville was led by three hits apiece from Logan Taylor (3-for-5, one run, three RBI) and Brendan McKay (3-for-4).
The Cardinals struck early, as Taylor led off the bottom of the first inning with a triple down the right field line and scored immediately on Colby Fitch's RBI groundout. They added another run in the fifth when Devin Hairston led off with a double to left center, advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Zeke Pinkham and came in via Ryan Summers' RBI single up the middle to make it 2-0.
Louisville tacked on another run in the seventh using a single through the right side by Summers and an RBI double to right center from Taylor.
The Cardinals did their final damage in the eighth, plating three runs on three hits. After a Drew Ellis walk and a Hairston single through the left side put runners on the corners, Jake Snider's one-out single to right center pushed in Ellis for the first run. Wyatt then walked to put two aboard again, and Taylor followed with a two-run single through the left side, bringing the final score to 6-0.
