Box Score DENVER -- The Omaha men's basketball team gutted out a win at Denver Wednesday night, as a last-second shot by sophomore forward Mitch Hahn lifted the Mavericks past DU 84-83 at Magness Arena. UNO now sits in a tie for third place in the Summit League standings with one game remaining, having improved to 15-13 (8-7) after its season sweep of the Pioneers.
Senior guard Marcus Tyus recorded his fifth 30-point scoring performance of the year, hitting 11-of-16 from the field and 6-of-8 from deep for a game-high 30 points alongside six rebounds.
Junior guard Daniel Norl added 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting with a pair of 3-pointers, and sophomore guard Zach Jackson had 12 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Junior forward Tre'Shawn Thurman chipped in nine points, while Hahn posted another eight points with a season-high four steals. Senior guard Tra-Deon Hollins dished out a game-high 10 assists and grabbed a game-best six steals.
Denver, which dropped to 16-12 (8-7) on the year, was led by 24 points from Joe Rosga, who hit four triples for the night. Daniel Amigo added 18 points and eight rebounds, and C.J. Bobbitt had another 17 points.
DU shot 59.6 percent (31-of-52) from the floor to Omaha's 48.4 percent (30-of-62) and outrebounded the Mavericks, 31-26. Omaha drilled 11 3-pointers in the game, forced 20 Pioneer turnovers and scored 26 points off miscues.
Omaha surged early to an 8-3 lead, as Tyus opened the game hitting a perfect 3-for-3 from the field in the first 1:38. The game then stalled four times up to 24-24 before the Pioneers went ahead 30-24 with a 7-0 run. A Jackson jumper finally stopped the spurt, but DU used another run of 5-0 to take its largest lead at 35-26 with 5:13 to go. Omaha chipped away from there, with Tyus knocking down his fifth 3-pointer to give the Mavericks a 46-41 edge in the final 30 seconds. Ending the half on an 18-5 run, Omaha led 46-42 at the break.
A back-and-forth second half included six ties and 10 lead changes, including two stalls and four lead changes in the final two minutes. With 36 seconds left, Thurman hit a free throw to push Omaha ahead 82-81 before Bobbitt responded with a layup on the other end with 12 seconds to go, putting DU back on top, 83-82. After a Maverick timeout, Tyus drove inside and handed it off to Hahn, whose floater fell in with 0.7 seconds on the clock and sealed Omaha's 84-83 triumph.
Omaha closes the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 25, hosting North Dakota State on Senior Night. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at Baxter Arena, and fans are encouraged to arrive early for pregame festivities honoring seniors Marcus Tyus, Tra-Deon Hollins and Kyler Erickson.
