OMAHA, Neb. – Sophomore forward
Jay Bridgeman set a career-high with 14 points and two blocked shots as the Omaha women's basketball team fell 72-51 to Creighton on Sunday afternoon at Baxter Arena.
With the loss, the Mavericks are now 7-3 (0-0 Summit League), while the Bluejays improve to 5-3 (0-0 Big East).
The Leaders
Omaha: Jay Bridgeman led the team with 14 points, five rebounds and two blocked shots.
Ellie Brecht recorded eight rebounds to go along with nine points.
Romekia Wallace grabbed eight boards.
Creighton: Sydney Lamberty led all scorers with 21 points and six assists. Jaylyn Agnew added 15 points, while Bailey Norby chipped in 11 points and seven boards.

Inside the First Quarter
Omaha took an early 4-3 lead on baskets by
Courtney Vaccher and
Claire Killian. Creighton responded with a 3-pointer by Jaylyn Agnew and a layup by Sydney Lamberty to regain the lead with 6:26 left in the opening quarter, 8-4. Four straight points by
Amber Vidal tied the game at 8-8 midway through the period. CU stretched its lead back to five points with under a minute remaining on a trey by Bailey Norby. A
Jay Bridgeman layup cut the Bluejay lead to 19-16 after the opening 10 minutes. Omaha outshot Creighton 46.2 percent (6-of-13) to 35.0 percent (7-of-20) in the opening quarter. The Mavericks converted 60.0 percent (3-of-5) of their 3-pointers while the Bluejays hit 50.0 percent (5-of-10) of their shots from distance.
Sizing Up the Second Quarter
A jumper by
Jess Walter cut the Creighton lead to 19-18 to open the second quarter. CU then went on a 10-3 spurt to take a 29-21 lead with 3:31 left in the opening half. Three-pointers by Vidal and
Ellie Brecht cut the lead to six, 33-27, with a minute remaining but a Lamberty jumper late in the period gave Creighton a 35-27 lead at halftime. Vidal led the Mavericks with five points in the stanza, while
Romekia Wallace grabbed a team-best four rebounds. Creighton shot slightly better than Omaha in the second quarter, 43.8 percent (7-of-16) compared to 40.0 percent (4-of-10). CU forced Omaha into seven turnovers while committing only three.
Looking at the Third Quarter
Claire Killian hit a pair of free throws early in the second half to cut the lead to 35-29. CU outscored Omaha 11-2 over the next 5:50 to stretch its lead to 46-31. A three-point play by Brecht followed by a Bridgeman jumper cut the Creighton lead to 49-38 at the end of the quarter. Both teams struggled from the floor coming out of halftime. Creighton managed to shoot 29.4 percent (5-of-17), while Omaha shot only 21.4 percent (3-of-14).
Wrapping Up the Fourth Quarter
Creighton outscored Omaha 23-13 in the final quarter to make the final score 23-13. The Bluejays shot 80 percent (8-of-10) from the field, while the Mavericks hit only 26.7 percent of their shots (4-of-15). CU hit 75 percent (3-of-4) of its shots from 3-point distance, while UNO made 20 percent (1-of-5).
