Women's Basketball Visits USC Upstate, Wofford for Thanksgiving

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha women's basketball team opens a two-game road swing by playing a pair of games this weekend in Spartanburg, S.C.  The Mavericks begin the weekend by visiting USC Upstate on Friday, Nov. 24 at 2 p.m. (CT), before playing at Wofford on Sunday, Nov. 26, at Noon (CT).

Follow the Game
Friday's game can be heard on 1290AM KOIL, and Sunday's game will be aired on 1180 Zone 2 with Donnie Baarns on the radio call for both games.  Both games will be streamed on ESPN3.  Links to live stats, audio and video will be available on OMavs.com.

Maverick Fast Breaks
•    Omaha enters the weekend 2-2 after a hard-fought 78-73 victory over Florida A&M on last Sunday at Sapp Fieldhouse.
•    Juniors Ellie Brecht and Amber Vidal, along with freshman Claire Killian have handled the lion's share of the scoring with 143 of the Mavericks' 258 points this year.
•    Vidal's numbers have been solid this season.  The junior from San Antonio, Texas, averages 13.8 points, 6.3 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game.  She has played 145 of a possible 160 minutes and leads the team with 25 assists.
•    Vidal and Brecht each have had 20-point performances this season.
•    Killian is averaging 11.8 points and 3.5 rebounds in her first four games as a Maverick.
•    Brecht and sophomore Jay Bridgeman each average five or more rebounds per game.
•    Last season, UNO finished 16-15 overall and fifth in the Summit League with a mark of 8-8.  The Mavericks were picked fifth in the league's 2017-18 preseason poll last month.
•    Omaha returns two of five starters from last season's team, including Vaccher and Vidal.
•    Omaha also returns juniors Brecht and Kalen Phillips, along with sophomore Bridgeman.
•    Sara Echelberry (So.) and Jess Walter (Jr.) return to action after redshirting in 2016-17. 
•    The Mavericks welcome six newcomers in juniors Alicia Mountain and Romekia Wallace, and freshmen Kylee Coulter, Emily Dewey, Claire Killian and Emily Petersen.

About USC Upstate
The Spartans are 1-4 following a 71-51 victory over crosstown foe Converse.

Tamera Thorpe is Upstate's leading scorer, averaging 10.8 points per game.  Anda Kuzmina is second on the team with 9.8 points per game while Morgan Williams chips in 8.0 points per game. Williams leads the Spartans with 6.8 rebounds per game.

Head coach Tammy George is in her 13th season at USC Upstate with a record of 166-200 and holds a 209-221 overall record in 15 seasons.

Friday marks the first all-time meeting between the Mavericks and the Spartans.

About Wofford
The Terriers are off to a 2-2 start after topping N.C. Central 77-56 on Tuesday.

Chloe Wanink is one of three Wofford players averaging double-figures so far this season.  She is averaging 25.3 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.  Wanink is shooting 52.2 percent (35-of-67) from the field and 52.9 percent (9-of-17) from 3-point distance.  Da'Ja Green averages 14.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, while Cairo Booker averages 10.5 points.

Head coach Jimmy Garrity is in his second season at Wofford with a 15-19 mark and has an 81-45 career mark in five seasons.

Omaha vs. Wofford
Omaha leads the all-time series with Wofford, 1-0.  The Mavericks defeated the Terriers 89-64 last season in Omaha.

Looking Ahead
The Mavericks open a four-game homestand next week.  Omaha hosts Graceland on Thursday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m.  UNO then plays College of Saint Mary on Sunday, Dec. 3 at 1 p.m.
