Mavericks Continue Summit League Road Swing

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's soccer team continues its three-match road trip this weekend with games in North Dakota and South Dakota.  The Mavericks open play on Friday, Oct. 6 at South Dakota State.  Kickoff from Fishback Park in Brookings, S.D., is set for 6 p.m.  Then UNO travels to Fargo, N.D., for a Sunday matchup against North Dakota State.  Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at Dacotah Field.

Scouting Report: Omaha
Omaha defeated Fort Wayne, 1-0, last Thursday to improve its record to 4-6-1.  The Mavericks are 1-0 in Summit League play.

Junior Abby Meader leads Omaha with seven points on a team-high three goals and an assist.  Senior Natalie Johnson is right behind with six points on three goals.  Overall, five different players have scored at least one goal for the Mavericks this season.

Sophomore Erin Bunker and senior Haley Johnson have split time in goal for Omaha in 2017.  Bunker (2-4-1) has a 2.03 goals-against average with a .700 save percentage.  Johnson (2-2) owns a league-leading 0.94 goals-against average and also has a conference-best .844 save percentage.

Head coach Tim Walters is in his first season at Omaha.  Previously, Walters spent six seasons as an assistant coach with Omaha's men's team.

Scouting Report: South Dakota State
South Dakota State defeated Bellevue, 3-0, last Sunday to improve to 5-4-3.  The Jackrabbits are 1-0 in Summit League play.

Nicole Hatcher paces SDSU with 14 points on a team-best five goals and four assists.  Leah Manuleleua is next with nine points on four goals and an assist.  Six different Jackrabbits have scored this season.

Maggie Smither (5-4-3) has played 1066 minutes in foal for SDSU.  She has a .821 save percentage and a 1.18 goals-against average.

Head coach Brock Thompson is in his first season at South Dakota State.  Previously, Thompson spent three seasons at North Dakota (2005-7) and three seasons at Mary (2001-3).

History vs. South Dakota State
Omaha and South Dakota State will meet for the 11th time on Friday.  The Mavericks lead the all-time series, 6-3-1.  The teams last met in Omaha in 2016.  Nyoke Dumba volleyed home a corner kick from Sophie Roux for the game's only goal.  UNO's Haley Shelton preserved the shutout by stopping a penalty kick in the 81st minute.

Scouting Report: North Dakota State
North Dakota State dropped a 3-0 decision against Denver last Sunday and fell to 3-9.  The Bison are 1-1 in Summit League play.

Danielle Algera, Hanna Norman and Malley O'Brien each have four points to lead the team.  Norman and O'Brien each have two goals while Algera has a goal and two assists.

Julia Edelstein and Monica Polgar have split time in goal for the Bison.  Polgar (3-4) has played 548 minutes in net so far in 2017.  She has a 1.81 goals-against average, and a .784 save percentage with three shutouts.  Edelstein (0-5) has appeared in 532 minutes in goal.  She has a .686 save percentage with a 2.71 goals-against average.

Head coach Mark Cook is in his sixth season at North Dakota State.  Cook came to NDSU after serving as the Director of Coaching at the Minnesota Thunder Academy for 11 years.

History vs. North Dakota State
North Dakota State and Omaha will meet for the 12th time on Sunday.  The Bison lead the all-time series, 7-3-1.  The teams last met in Omaha in 2016 where UND came away with a 2-0 victory.

This and That
•    Friday's game will be the ninth road contest of the season for the Mavericks.  Omaha has only played three matches at home thus far.
•    Omaha's three-goal output vs. Rockhurst was the highest single-game total of the season for the Mavericks.
•    Omaha has started 19 different players through 11 games this season.  Senior Jessica Bollinger is the only player to start every game this season and leads the team with 968 minutes played.  Carlie Cook has started all 10 matches that she has appeared in this season.
•    Four other players have made nine starts in 2017, and only two players other than Bollinger have played more than 800 minutes.  Senior Erin Dimon has played in 870 minutes, while Abby Meader has appeared in 841 minutes of action.
•    Overall 23 of the 24 players on the roster have made an appearance in 2017.
•    Nine players have made their Omaha debuts this year.  Junior Susie Dineen has appeared in all 11 games this season with 10 starts, while freshman Bailey Cascio and junior Erinoelle Clifton each have made four starts.  Haley Johnson has made five starts in goal for UNO.
•    The Mavericks have used three goalkeepers this year, Haley Johnson (1-2), Erin Bunker (2-3-1) and freshman Maggie Tulay.

Looking Forward
The Mavericks will play their first home match in nearly a month as they host Denver on Sunday, Oct. 15.  Kickoff from Caniglia Field is set for 1 p.m.
