Omaha Hosts Creighton and North Dakota this Weekend

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's soccer team hosts two games this weekend at Caniglia Field.  The Mavericks take on the Creighton Bluejays on Friday, Aug. 26 at 8 p.m. followed by a Noon match against North Dakota on Sunday, Aug. 28.

Omaha Quick Hits (1-0-0, 0-0-0 Summit League)

  • Omaha returns to action at Caniglia Field after a strong opening weekend, defeating UMKC last Friday, 2-0.
  • Goalkeeper Haley Shelton was named Summit League Defensive Player of the Week after earning the shutout victory and making eight saves.
  • Midfielders Carlie Cook and Lydia Holtmann each scored a goal and an assist last Friday.
  • The goal was the first of Cook's career.
  • Omaha returns 19 letter winners and eight starters from the 2015 squad which went 5-11-2 overall. 
  • Don Klosterman is in his 18th season at the helm in Omaha with a 215-108-18 record.

Bluejay Observations (1-0-1, 0-0-0 BIG EAST)

  • Creighton opened its season with a two-game homestand against Iowa (8/19) and UMKC (8/21).  The Bluejays defeated the Hawkeyes, 5-3, and tied the Kangaroos, 1-1.
  • Callie Hawkins scored twice on Friday night and was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her performance.
  • Lauren Sullivan, who has led Creighton in scoring the past two seasons, scored the Bluejays lone goal Sunday afternoon.
  • Erin Scott has played every minute in goal this season for the Bluejays.  Scott has a 1.80 goals-against average and a .692 save percentage.

About the Fighting Hawks (1-0-1, 0-0-0 Big Sky)

  • North Dakota started its season with a 0-0 tie against Northern Illinois and a 1-0 double overtime win over South Dakota.
  • Goalkeeper Catherine Klein made 18 saves last weekend and earned Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week honors.
  • Karleen Yapello leads UND in goals with one.

Up Next

Omaha will host Kansas State on Sunday, Sept. 4.  The match is set to begin at Noon.

Summit League Weekly Honors

Haley Shelton was named the Summit League Defensive Player of the Week in the first week of play for her eight-save performance in the Mavericks win over UMKC.
