OMAHA, Neb. -- A pair of former Omaha men's basketball standouts have found success with their current professional teams, as guard
CJ Carter and forward
Mike Rostampour both won league championships overseas earlier this season. Carter's MZT Skopje Aerodrom team captured the Prva Liga title in Macedonia, while Rostampour's BC Prievidza squad won the Slovak Extraliga crown in Slovakia.
In his first year as a professional, Rostampour helped BC Prievidza go 26-6 in regular-season play. His team earned a No. 1 seed entering the playoffs, in which it defeated the defending champion, Rieker Komárno. Rostampour averaged 8.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game in the regular season, then upped that to 9.1 points and 7.1 boards per postseason contest. The West St. Paul, Minn., native had two 17-point, 22-carom performances during the season and recorded the most rebounds in a game of any player in Slovakia since 2010.
Carter played his first professional season with MZT Skopje, which compiled a 24-4 record and won its 11th league title in a best-of-five series, 3-1 over Kumanovo in the league championship. The Omaha Benson product averaged 5.9 points, 1.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.4 steals per game, shooting .560 from the field.
"We're incredibly proud of the success Mike and CJ have both had in their first season as professionals overseas," Omaha head coach
Derrin Hansen said. "With the leadership they both demonstrated during their collegiate careers at UNO, it's no surprise that that has translated into fulfilling professional experiences for both of them. We're thrilled to see what's next in both of their careers."
