Omaha Opens Summit League Tournament Versus IUPUI

OMAHA, Neb. - The sixth-seeded Omaha women's basketball team will compete in its first Summit League Championship when it takes on No. 3 seed IUPUI at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls, S.D., in Sunday's final quarterfinal matchup.  Opening tip is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and the game will be televised on Midco and ESPN3 with Tom Nieman on play-by-play and Brad Newitt providing color commentary. Jon Green will also have the radio call on 1180 Zone 2, and fans can stream the audio on their smartphones by downloading NRG Media's app "1620 The Zone." The Teams

Omaha is led by junior and Summit League First Team selection Mikaela Shaw, who is averaging a league best 18.3 points per game.  Shaw averages a team-high eight rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.6 steals per game.  Sophomore guard Remy Davenport averages 10.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game.  Caroline Hogue, a member of the Summit League All-Newcomer team, averages a league best three blocked shots per game as well as 9.4 points and 4.3 boards per game.

The Mavericks rank first in the Summit League in blocked shots, blocking 5.9 shots per game.  They also limit the opposition to just 38.6 percent from the field, which is second best in the league.  Omaha also limits the opposition to just 31.2 percent from the 3-point arc.  Offensively, UNO shoots 42 percent from the floor and 32.4 percent from distance.  At the free throw line, the Mavs rank in the top three in the league by hitting 72 percent of their foul shots.

IUPUI is led by three players averaging double-figure points, including sophomore Danielle Lawrence club-best 13.4 points per game.  Mikale Rogers contributes 12.8 points and a team-best 6.9 rebounds per outing, as Akilah Sims comes off the bench with 11 points in each contest.

The Jaguars shoot 43.3 percent from the field and 31.9 percent from beyond-the-arc on the year.  Their free throw percentage is 68.2 percent.  IUPUI averages 68.5 points per game, but allows 60.

Shaw Named to Academic All-America Third Team

Mikaela Shaw was named to the 2015-16 CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced on Thursday.

She is the fifth Academic All-American in Omaha women's basketball history, with Paige Frauendorfer being the first Academic All-American in the Division I era.  Other women's basketball honorees include Laura Anderson (1988), Amy Loth (1997), and Stacie Kaiser (1997).

Two Earn All-Summit League Honors

Mikaela Shaw and Caroline Hogue were named to the 2016 All-Summit League Basketball Teams, the conference office announced Thursday.

Shaw was named to the Summit League First Team after leading the conference in scoring (18.3 points per game), field goals made (196), and total points (511).  Hogue earned a spot on the All-Newcomer team and was the Summit League leader in blocked shots (83) and blocks per game (3.0).

History

There have been eight games in the all-time series between the two programs.  IUPUI leads the series 6-2.  This season, the two teams split their two meetings.  IUPUI won on its home court on January 13, 75-59.  The Mavericks and the Jaguars met in Omaha on Feb. 18, where UNO snapped IUPUI's five-game winning streak with a 57-54 triumph on its home floor.
