Box Score

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Omaha men's basketball team capped the regular season in a big way Thursday night, defeating Oral Roberts 102-98 on Senior Night at Baxter Arena. With the win, the Mavericks improved to 18-12 (10-6 Summit League) and locked down the No. 3 seed for next weekend's Summit League Tournament, while the Golden Eagles dropped to 14-15 (6-9 Summit League).

Senior guard Devin Patterson led all scorers with 29 points, shooting 10-of-16 from the field with four 3-pointers and a 5-of-5 effort at the free throw line. The Portsmouth, Va., native added five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Senior guard/forward Randy Reed II followed with a career-high 21 points, hitting 8-of-11 shots from the floor and 4-of-4 at the line while pulling down five boards and adding a steal.

Junior guard Tra-Deon Hollins achieved his second double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 assists, adding four caroms, three steals and a block. Senior forward Jake White rounded it out with 18 points, a team-high seven rebounds and a steal.

Omaha had its second-highest field goal percentage of the season, shooting 56 percent (36-of-64) from the floor. The Mavericks were also 53 percent (9-of-17) from long range and 78 percent (21-of-27) at the stripe, and they finished with a 9-6 advantage in steals.

Oral Roberts was led by 26 points from the conference's leading scorer, Obi Emegano, while Daquan Jeffries added 21 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Jalen Bradley and Javan White each had 11 points, and Albert Owens and Aaron Young chipped in another 10 apiece.

UNO and ORU traded buckets to start the game, with a 6-6 tie broken with two Hollins free throws. A Bradley 3-pointers got the Golden Eagles within two at 16-14, but Omaha rattled off an 8-2 scoring run capped by Thurman taking it down the boulevard for a layup to lead 24-16 with 9:15 to go. The Mavericks then took their largest lead of the half at 36-25 on a Reed 3-pointer at the top of the key. Helped by six first-half steals with 10 ORU turnovers -- including two swipes from Patterson -- Omaha finished the opening 20 minutes with a 43-38 advantage.

In the second half, the Mavericks shot 70 percent (21-of-30), led by 18 points from Patterson, who hit 6-of-8 in the final 20 minutes. Omaha led by double digits until its lead was cut to eight with 10:29 to play after Jeffries scored five straight, but the Mavericks stopped the threat with an immediate 15-4 run. A Jake White 3-pointer finished it off as the Mavericks took a 19-point lead, 86-67, with 7:23 to go.

A late rally saw the Golden Eagles threaten in the final minute, and Omaha's lead dwindled to four. With 15 seconds to go, a Javan White tip-in made it 100-95, and after two Hollins free throws, a banked 3-pointer by Bradley made it a four-point game at 102-98 with 10 seconds left. ORU's final attempt from long range missed, however, and Omaha took the win, 102-98.

Omaha returns to action at the Summit League Tournament, March 5-8, in Sioux Falls, S.D. A full tournament bracket will be released at the conclusion of regular-season play on Saturday, Feb. 27.
