OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's basketball team hosts IUPUI for its final home game of the 2015-16 season on Thursday, Feb. 18. Tipoff from Baxter Arena is set for 7 p.m. The game will also serve as the senior game for the Mavericks lone senior Bobbi Beckwith. A pregame ceremony will honor Beckwith's career at UNO.
Live webcast, as well as live audio and live stats, will be available at OMavs.com. The game will be aired on 1180 Zone 2 with Jon Green calling the action.
The Teams
UNO enters Thursday's contest with a 12-13 overall record and is in sixth place in the Summit League standings with a 5-8 mark. The Mavericks are coming off a 74-67 loss at North Dakota State on Sunday afternoon.
Brittany Lange is in her third year at the helm of the Omaha basketball program. This season the Mavericks are led on the court by junior Mikaela Shaw. Shaw leads the Summit League in points per game (18.6 ppg) and is second in rebounds per game (8.4 rpg). She also leads the team in assists (3.2) and steals (1.6) per game, as well as field goal percentage (52.2 percent).
Remy Davenport is second on the team in scoring with 10.5 points per game. The sophomore also averages 3.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. Caroline Hogue is next averaging 8.4 points per game. Hogue is the Summit League leader in blocked shots per game at 2.8.
As a team, UNO averages 64.2 points per game, while giving up only 63.8 per game. The Mavericks shoot 41.9 percent (591-1412) from the field and 32.4 percent (158-488) from 3-point distance. Omaha also leads the Summit League with 5.8 blocks per game. On Sunday, the Mavericks set the program's all-time mark for team blocks in a season with 144. The old record was 142 set last season.
IUPUI enters Thursday's contest on a five game Summit League winning streak. The Jaguars are 18-7 overall and are holding onto the third spot in the league standings with a 9-3 record. Last time out, they won a 67-54 game at Denver.
Austin Parkinson is in his sixth season leading the IUPUI basketball program. This season's team is led by Preseason All-Summit First Team honoree Akilah Sims. This season Sims is third on the team in scoring averaging 11.4 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Danielle Lawrence leads the team in scoring with 13.5 points per game, while teammate Mikale Rogers averages 13.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Rogers has been named Summit league Player of the Week twice this season. Lawrence has also been tabbed the Player of the Week twice this season and Sims has earned the honor once.
As a team, the Jaguars average 69.7 points per game, while limiting the opposition to 59.8 per game. They also hold a plus 4.7 rebounding average over the opposition, 38.8 rebounds to 34.1 rebounds per game.
Series History
IUPUI and Omaha have matched-up seven times since the Mavericks transitioned to Division I. The Jaguars have won six of the seven games, including a 75-59 victory in Indianapolis, Ind. earlier this season. The lone UNO victory was a 66-49 victory at Sapp Fieldhouse on Jan. 17, 2015.
In January, Mikaela Shaw had a team high 20 points, seven rebounds, and four assists to lead Omaha. Caroline Hogue finished the game with 16 points and four blocked shots. Bobbi Beckwith added seven points and five rebounds, while Remy Davenport chipped in five points and six assists.
IUPUI had four players in double-figures. Mikale Rogers had a game-high 26 points, seven rebounds, and two blocked shots. Danielle Lawrence had 13 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three blocks. Jenna Gunn and Shaquira Scott each had 10 points.
