Mavs Travel to NDSU for a Sunday Summit League Tilt

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's basketball team hits the road for the first time in the month of February as they visit North Dakota State.  Tip-off from the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse is set for 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 14.  Live webcast, as well as live audio and live stats, will be available at OMavs.com.  The game will be aired on 1180 Zone 2 with Jon Green calling the action.

The Teams

Omaha is 12-12 overall and 5-7 in the Summit League after a come from behind victory on Thursday evening against Fort Wayne.  The Mavs trailed by as many as 13 points in the third quarter, but outscored the Mastodons 45-25 over the final 10:56 for the victory.  Mikaela Shaw had a game high 23 points and 10 rebounds.

Shaw leads the Summit league in scoring averaging 18.4 points per game.  The junior is also second in the league in rebounds per game (8.4 rpg) and field goal percentage (52.6 pct.).  Remy Davenport averages 10.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 0.8 blocks per game.  Caroline Hogue is the league leader with 2.8 blocks per game and is in the top 20 nationally in the category.  The freshman also adds 8.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.

North Dakota State enters the weekend with an overall record of 6-19 and are 1-11 in Summit League play after falling at home to IUPUI, 64-63.  Marena Whittle leads the Bison and ranks second in the Summit League in scoring with 17.3 points per game.  She leads the team and the league on the boards with 10.4 rebounds per game.  Taylor Thunstedt is also averaging in double figures for NDSU with 16.7 points per game.  Thunstedt ranks third in the Summit League in points per game and sixth in three-point field-goal percentage (39.4 percent).  NDSU ranks second in the Summit League in three-point field-goal percentage at 35.2 percent.  The Bison are averaging 64.2 points per game, but surrendering 72.6 per game.  North Dakota State is outrebounding its foes, 36.6 to 35.7.

Series History

The history between Omaha and North Dakota State dates back to 1980.  NDSU leads the all-time series, 43-14, but UNO has won four of the last five.  In fact, the Mavericks own a 5-2 series advantage since the transition to Division I started.

The Mavericks and Bison squared off earlier this season to kick-off the Summit League schedule.  Omaha registered a 77-52 victory at Baxter Arena.  Mikaela Shaw had 19 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, two steals, and a blocked shot.  Shaw was joined in double-figures by sophomore Remy Davenport's game high 23 points and five rebounds and senior Bobbi Beckwith's 11 points and six rebounds in her first start of the season, tying her personal high in points and rebounds.  Amber Vidal chipped in nine points and four assists, while Vanessa Barajas had seven points and five boards.

The Mavericks wrap up the home portion of the 2015-16 schedule on Thursday, Feb. 18 against IUPUI.  Senior Bobbi Beckwith will be honored prior to the game for her career at UNO.  Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Baxter Arena.
