SEASIDE, Calif. – The Omaha women's golf team exceeded pre-season expectations with a sixth-place finish at the Summit League Championship on Wednesday.

The Mavericks, who had been picked last in the Summit's preseason coaches' poll, posted a 54-hole score of 985 on another cold and windy day at the Bayonet Golf Course.  They shot a final round of 331.  Denver repeated as Summit Champions with a score of 926, ahead of Oral Roberts at 944.  South Dakota State finished third at 948.

Denver's Elyse Smidinger was the individual medalist with a score of 227.

Senior Sophie Peters had UNO's best round of the day, firing an 81.  She finished as UNO's leading scorer with a total of 239.  That was good for 12th place.

Katie Kesti was second for the Mavericks and 13th overall with a score of 240 that included a final round of 82.  Megan Vetrovsky carded a score of 84 in the third round to finish at 247, good for a tie for 22nd in the 45-player field.

Makenna Kroeker tied for 41st overall after shooting 89 on the final day for a three-round total of 264.  Alexa Ruwe tied her career best by shooting a round of 84 on Wednesday to finish at 270.
